About the Author

Isa Chandra Moskowitz is America's most popular vegan chef. The author of Vegan with a Vengeance and Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, she has done vegan cookery demonstrations across the country, and has been featured in dozens of print and online publications. Since 2003, she and Terry Hope Romero have hosted the public access/podcast vegan cooking show The Post Punk Kitchen.

Buy this book for the carrot cake cupcake recipe alone. My meat eating friend stated it was the best cake she had ever had and I can't disagree. Amazingly good. Perfectly written book. Not enough photos to drool over.

I really can't recommend this book enough. It has great recipes and pictures (still rare for vegan cook books). The best bit has to be the vegan icing recipes - no more runny, margy messes! Even dairy lovers have been impressed. Up the revolution!

I know there are already a lot of reviews on this so I'll keep this short.
First of all the photography is stunning; something that a lot of vegen cookbooks are lacking. You will be kept from baking by the fact that you will be salavating over the pictures for so long! The receipes are easy to follow and most of the ingredients are easy to find, but not all. Can I just tell U.K readers now that if you are wondering what 'shortening' is it is vegetable fat, I use Trex - I was looking for AGES for this info - so I hope this helps you out. I highly reccommend this book - BUY IT!

This is lovely little book with nice illustrations and some great and unusual ideas. However, my first attempt at the recipe for the vanilla cupcakes wasn't a success. After reading the reviews, I used plain flour as a substitute for 'all purpose flour' and followed the instructions carefully. The cupcakes didn't rise properly and were a real disappointment. The ones I made previously to my old recipe were much better. In fairness, the vegan cupcakes recipe cakes did taste pretty good! It could be that I need to adjust temperatures/timings for my fan oven so I'll also take this into account.

I found that the cup measurements were much easier to manage than weighing everything (I bought a set from Asda) and as a note to anyone else, canola oil is acutally rapeseed oil (usually sold as 'vegetable oil' in supermarkets). Shortening isn't actually margarine but white vegetable fat.. I didn't use this, I used margarine instead (but this is how I usually make cupcakes and it works perfectly well).

Maybe my next attempt will be more successful but I'll definitely be using self raising flour =)

I got this cookbook for Xmas and have probaly used it about 500 times already. The recipes are amazingly easy to follow, and just in case you £"(% it up anyway, the section "When bad things happen to good cupcakes" is invalueable.

I want to make these cupcakes for everyone I know! I want to get to know more people simply so that I can make them vegan cupcakes!

I may fed-ex some to my mother who lives on the other side of the planet. Better yet, I may just buy her a copy of this book. There is no way she is getting her hands on mine! ;)

You should buy it too, it's worth every penny.

The person who recommended this book to me is not vegan, but said the recipes were 'fantastic' and she had been recommending it to all her friends, regardless of their dietary preferences. I am vegan and have found baking a bit of a challenge sometimes - but this book lists all the non-animal ingredients that can be used as bulking and raising agents. It has been a boon, as I can now produce fluffy textured high-rising sponges etc. with the best of them. In fact many of my friends prefer the texture of these vegan cakes to the ones made with more conventional ingredients. This is a real find for anyone who wants to add to their cooking repertoire.

I really love this book! I've tried pretty much all the basic cupcakes so far and one fancy one! They were all delish! Friends and family loved them! The only negative thing I have to say, is that it states a lot of ingredients I'd never heard of, or couldn't find in the UK, as it's a US based book :S

This is beyond doubt the best cupcake book on the market (and I have quite of few of them). I am not Vegan but my neice cannot tolerate dairy or eggs so I bought this book so that I could make cakes for her. What a revelation ! this book is not just for Vegans, the recipies work out very well every time and they taste great. I now use this book for most of my cake making as you just can not tell that there is no dairy or eggs in them. The chocolate cupcakes are so yummy. I have turned several of the cupcake recipes in to larger cakes by using the mix in one larger cake tin. The tiramisu cupcakes are outstanding. Anyone who likes to bake cakes should have this book, You will be amazed that you don't need either eggs or butter to make delicious cakes.
