This was bought to replace a fifteen year old Dyson DC-01. It is the first cylinder cleaner we've had and I was uncertain if it would be as good considering the modest price tag. But it's not bad at all.
The wand is easy to use and light in the hand. It does take a different technique to use, a steady pull is what's required rather than a push-pull as in an upright. I like the zip away flex, the handy storage of the tools, the ease of change between different surfaces, the easy emptying dust box and the clear instructions. I don't like the sharp plastic edges on a couple of the smaller tools. While cleaning a leather chair I managed to leave a scratch which took a bit of repair work with a restorative dye polish to put right. It would be possible to draw blood on the very sharp edge of this tool. I rubbed it down with a fine emery cloth but it is definitely a minus point.
I don't (unlike some other reviewers) find the machine flimsy. I think it is about par for the price or possibly slightly better. The cylinder for example looks similar quality to a Dyson at more than twice the price. The extending wand is easy and light to use and seems perfectly robust. I know from past experience (with a Vax steamer) that the company has a good spares and repairs service.
The registration was a little frustrating however as the product registration page on the Vax website did not seem to recognise my product. I was presented with a picture menu and a 'type in your product number and we'll find it' box. Only it didn't. I eventually got in through a slightly circuitous route after a couple of fruitless tries so all's well.
My conclusion is that this is a very good machine for the money. If the quality control on the moulding was improved I would give it five stars.
