This mat is quick and easy to self-inflate and is firm and comfortable, the raised pillow area means you can maybe get away with taking just one pillow each instead of the usual two, BUT it is an absolute pig to deflate and roll up!

We already have some single self-inflating mats so the deflating method is nothing new to us (undo valves, fold into three and compress to expel air, tighten valves, open out again and roll towards valves, undo valves again when rolled to 1/4 way near the top to expel remaining air, tighten valves when fully rolled). Try doing that with this mat and you'll find one half continually slips away from the other (this is not one solid mat, but 2 x mats joined together in the middle, so you have to fold it in half lengthways on the join and then deflate). Even when most of the air is expelled and you're at the rolling stage, it's a real pain trying to get the two halves to stay together and one side inevitably rucks up or slips away at an angle. The fabric is also a bit slippery, which doesn't help.

So, easy to use but a pain to pack! I think we'll stick with our 2 x singles, side-by-side!

We couldn't believe how easy it was to inflate - it does it itself!! Thought it might need some blowing up but it didn't. Is very comfortable, really glad we bought it, despite owning one of the better camping airbeds, this is a definite improvement. Just be aware that when you deflate, a lot more effort is required trying to get the air out of this bed compared with a normal airbed - it is also three times the size of an airbed when deflated, taking up a lot more room in the car, which is a bit of a nightmare when space is so precious! But overall a good buy.

Really like this inflating mat. I am a very large lass, and I found the mat comfortable, I did wonder if my weight would mean this mat wouldn't be comfortable. But it really was ok. I did find my sleeping bag slid around on the mat terribly, thankfully, last night I was kipping in the garden with my son, so I was able to pop indoors for a sheet to put over the mat to stop some of the slipping.

The pillow I have to say is useless, its more or less the same height as the rest of the mat, so you still need a pillow or rolled up jumper or something.
Also, the double mat I have is actually two singles taped together, and not one large double as soon in the photo, I don't know if Vango now do a double as teh photo, or if the photos is a single..but just to say, the one I bought has a dip in middle. It's fine and isn't comfortable (solong you get both sides inflated to the same height).

This is pretty large once deflated and rolled up, but then this is for campers using a car, it's not overly heavy, but if you want it for a festival and have a distance to walk to the camping field, you'll probably want to think about a trolley of some sort for all your camping bits and bats.

Ooh and I definitely found it far easier, to undo the valves so it released a fair bit of air itself, and then I tightened one back up and deflated one side, fastened the valve (otherwise it will start to inflate itself), and then deflated the other side. Now I do have some mobility issue in that I can't crawl on my knees, so i was bending over, rolling the mat over and then standing on it to push the air out..if you can kneel and roll and push air otu at the same time, you might be able to push the air out for both sides at the same time.

We bought the XL, 75mm thickness, mat in the search for camping comfort for an ageing back. The thinner, light weight self inflating mats (Thermarest, Life Venture brands both used) were no longer enough, inflatables are just too cold, and solid foam mats too bulky and unmanageable. Although our example never actually achieves the full 75mm thickness, it does provide the needed comfort. Don't expect much from the 'raised' pillow, it's little thicker than the rest of the mat although a rolled fleece laid over it will suffice for most. However, if you have a bad back, you probably have a bad neck too, and an additional pillow still makes a big difference.

When it arrived I was dismayed to see just how big the rolled mat was and it's only suitable for camping close to your vehicle; there's no way you could realistically take this size of mat back-packing. Tightly rolled (it doesn't crush down much) it's more than twice the size and significantly heavier (2.575kg) than our 2-person backpacking tent, and the same size as our packed 'campsite' tent (North Face Fortress 33), and it's a shame that this 75mm thickness mat seems to be available only with the extra width - which we don't need.

So, it does the job on campsites, but for backpacking, it's back to the Thermarest and creaking backs.

I was dubious about buying a self inflating mat but im glad I changed my mind. Although its quite thin in relation to a traditional blow up airbed its sooooo much better. I bought the double one and it really does self inflate ignore any posts that say its doesnt. Simply open the valves and leave it to do its thing before closing them again, you can give it an extra bit of air if needed but ive never had to do this. The insulating qualities of the foam mean its much warmer than an airbed and much better for your back as you dont sink in the middle or roll together.

Ok, so deflating it is an art form but with a bit of folding, squashing, opening and closing valves and repeating the whole process a few times, you can compress this quite well. Obviously with it being a double mat its not backpacking equipment in that instance I would recommend the single one. Highly recommend item!!
