I thought the tragidy in the story could have made this a beautiful healing love story. Instead I found what he offered her as his version of healing quite inappropriate. I'll say no more as I don't want to cause ill will. but I truly feel given the sorrow in the story, introducing bdsm to that story was wrong.
I'm giving 2 stars because the writing was great regarding structure, punctuation etc. I also liked the H when he was out of a scene and was simply Vandal. I'm just mad with myself for presuming because one book was to my liking and comfort level, so too would the next. I won't be returning for a refund as I did read it hoping I'd find something that made sense of how this relationship was supposed to heal. But if I'd known the love interests sexual preference I'd not have bought it.
really sorry: just not my cup of tea. each to his own.
I loved Storm it was edgy and humorous with some great characters, some of those characters join us in this next book in the Ashes & Embers series.
The Prologue to this book broke my heart.
I could literally feel Vandals pain seeping off the pages throughout this book, i wanted to reach out and hug him so hard.
This story has ugly parts, it has painful and gut-wrenching chapters, two individuals tied together, who are united by one twisted and devastating tragedy.
Two broken people devastated by the same event, lives destroyed, but some how they find they can be each others saviour, to find the light again after so much darkness.
I dont want to give any of the story away i will just say that this is a must read, a hauntingly beautiful plot that ripped my heart to shreds at times.
From reading the lighter hearted story that was Storm to this angsty heart breaker, Carian Cole has excelled herself with this book, i had not expected this story to go how it did and i cannot wait to read the next book in this wonderful series.
Vandal had a terrible childhood, eventually finding a family when his grandmother traced him. He found it difficult to connect to them though and at one point buried himself in drink and drugs. His only love was his tiny daughter. Then tragedy happens.
He meets Tabi and through deceit and manipulation, they find themselves living and healing each other, but not in a normal way.
This covers a lot of issues but they are well written and approached and I was thoroughly engrossed in the story. In fact I wanted to know more and would have liked the rest of the family to have been more involved.
Was the old lady Tabi talked of, his grandmother?
Suitable for older readers due to content.
After a tragic event, Vandal is at rock bottom when he hatches his plan...I think 1 of my comments to Carian was how I thought what a sick dude Vandal was...he may be sick but OMFG he does it in the best way that had me loving him! Tabi, so beautifully broken....can they mend each other?? You will need to find out! You will also meet Sterling...I want him! Storm, Evie and the other band members pop up to so you wont be disappointed!
This book has sex, lots of gritty dirty sex...I loved it (and needed a towel to sit on!!) Its also a heart warming story that keeps you on the edge of your seat guessing!
I loved Storm so much and Vandal is just so deliciously different...its a fantastic read!
The end/epilogue shocked the crap out of me, its one of those OH.MY.GOD. moments!!!
Carian has done it again - such a brilliant book!
This book also showed Carian is multifaceted author. Vandal and Tabitha are unique and very deep characters. A complete contrast to Storm and Evie, you absolutely know you’re reading different characters and oh my Lord what characters they were! Vandal - the tormented rock-star that does everything in his power to make you hate him, but how can you, I would have happily been his Tabicat! He’s been in and is in such a bad place you can but help want to heal him. Tabitha – oh my heart was laid out on the gravestone with hers! So many times Tabitha had me screaming one thing at her about Vandal and yet completely understanding why she didn’t run for the hills. I love, fricken love books that have me in turmoil with a lead character. And that ending – Carian – ‘friggin A’ Lady – ‘friggin A’ indeed!
What I loved about this and the fact that it’s a rock-star read is that actually the rock-starry bit takes a back seat. It’s there as in the band Embers and Ashes but not the forefront at all. This is all about the accident, the meeting, the lies, the need of each other and the Dominance and submission. Crikey it was bloody fabulous read again! I am absolutely hooked on Carian’s writing style. She writes how I talk to myself, her deliverance is my speech and ways and from that I know we are writer/reader marriage that will be a long and happy relationship. Two books down of Carian’s now and both are absolutely favourites of mine. Bring on the third and Lukas!
I received a copy of Vandal in return for an honest review, my reviews are my own and 100% honest.
