Ashlynn Monroe has long been one of my favorite authors and the short novella, "The Vampire's Plaything" just enforces why I love her so much! You can escape & get lost in her amazing worlds within the first few pages of any of her books and the very moment that the gorgeous heroine Zoe finds herself a prisoner of the sensuous & mesmerizing vampire, Hayden, you'll be hopelessly addicted to this story. When the oh-so-sexy Liam joins in, you'll have to go lock yourself in a room somewhere alone because Ms. monroe knows how to make a woman hot under the collar! It's a short novella so I don't want to give away any spoilers but the storyline is captivating and the writing is beyond the realms of absolute hotness! Ashlynn Monroe does it again! Grab this book and enjoy, for a little bit of escape from the real world. Be sure to check out other Ashlynn Monroe books, also!

This was a short story, but I have to say, that this was such a sexy steamy romp that you’ll want to re read it again and again. I read this book in one quick gulp and then I read it again because I wanted to make sure that I had the story understood and I had a sense of what I wanted to say when I wrote my review. I got more out of the story the second time around because I knew what was going to happen next and this story is so short that if you usually don’t enjoy re-reading, this book will make a convert out of you. I’m going to apologize now in advance for being evasive with my review but I need to let the reader know that this is a short story and I don’t want to reveal anything that might ruin the story for the reader. It will so be worth it if you read it though.
Why all this fuss over a short story you may be asking? Well, ok we have a hunky vampire that is attracted to Zoe and the possibility of another hunky vampire who wants her as well. Can I just say HAWT!!? If you’re not into reincarnation or vampires or anything of that nature then this book is definitely not for you. If these kinds of things don’t bother you, then hopefully you’ll enjoy the book.
I have to say, that at first I was apprehensive about reading this book because I wasn’t sure if being at the mercy of a vampire was something I wanted to read about, but I was pleasantly surprised at the wording of the author’s work and I wasn’t feeling uncomfortable with the material at all. I know that sounds so strange, vampires, reincarnation, being at his mercy, they should be sending out red flags of danger, but trust me, and stay with me.
I found myself liking Zoe and I was sure that I wouldn’t. I didn’t think I’d like her because I thought she would be this whiny, wimpy virginal character who would be docile and subservient to the vampire. I thought she would wring her hands in trepidation and swoon when he got naked. Instead, she knew what she was getting herself into and understood the ramifications of her decisions and was more then ok with what was going to happen. She was smart and ballsy and knew what she wanted. I even liked Hayden, the vampire. He knew he was incapable of soft tender feelings and was honest and forthright with Zoe about his expectations of her. You can’t fault a dude for being honest with what he wants, even if it’s not what I want to hear.
I don’t want to say too much more about the story because I fear giving more of the story away and I want you the reader to enjoy it and be surprised.
First off, I don't mind the term slut. I like that term. I'm a big fat slut and love when my Sir calls me a slut when we play. It is part of humiliation play. Which is something I am very much into, and I embrace the slut in me and in my fellow submissives that like that term. Second, I like the story idea. It was unique, and I was wrapped up in the abduction scenario straight away. Vampires are bad, and Ashlynn writes her vampires bad and Sadistic. Which I LOVE! For me that is how it is supposed to be. They are supposed to be basically heartless creatures that take what they want, kill what they want, have sex with whoever they want.
Now, for the parts of the story that put me off, or pulled me out of the enjoyment factor; there was very little fluidity to the storyline. It has great potential but it fell flat with very little explanations. Then out of nowhere, a second man walks in and says "Oh, you're my bride too! It is destiny." I was like wait a minute I'm all for a threesome but that just made no sense! Second, the BDSM was skeevy for me. It is very hard for me to be judgy on this, but I can't help it, because the story is labeled as a BDSM book on most retailers. Putting a collar on someone and saying you're a slave does not a BDSM story make, you need to give me more to satisfy my lust for a BDSM genre read. I need more bondage, I need more impact play, I need more humiliation, and I need more Dominance. It was too quick, too jumbled, and I struggled to enjoy the second half of the book.
With that being said, I have to say that I do believe that people that are new to BDSM books, like vampire book with enjoy this story. I still am determined to grab an Ashlynn book that works for me! I think that she has great potential and unique ideas, I am just waiting to find that great execution I know she's capable off!
Steamy, sexy, and to the point, The Vampire's Plaything is sure to keep you turning the pages and begging for more. Ashlynn Monroe does a fantastic job of developing characters with emotion, depth, and chemistry, which is not an easy task in so few pages. I actually found myself wishing there was more to read of this story, and wanting to learn more about the characters and the world they live in. Hayden and Liam are both so mysterious and sexy.
The Vampire's Plaything is hot, sexy, and worth a look!
