Connie is the bait to lure Rurik, the overlord vampire, for a group of slayers led by Colby. The way her relationship with Rurik developed definitely got me thinking of the days when I was obsessed with Buffy the Vampire slayer, and the fact Buffy is mentioned left me in no doubt that the TV series must have influenced the author.
However, once the plot developed and got darker it was more about control, power, gore and blood-ties. This made me think of the "House of Night" series.
I raced through the last third of the book, but was confused at the info dump... Everything happened all at once!
Then before I knew what was happening the book ended. My kindle said I had 20% to go - but I was finished! Confusing... There are also a few scattered typos around which need to be sorted, and some minor formatting issues.
Anyway, I got this free so it was an enjoyable read overall. I would recommend if you were a fan of Buffy or the "House of Night" series... Although, the sexual scenes in this book definitely make is more suitable for an older audience. Saying this, it was not what I would class as erotica, and I was pleased to see this was not just about lust!
It has left me intrigued...
(BTW - there are no werewolves or shifters in this story - I was confused when it was listed under that free category too!!!)
I want my books, whatever the genre, to have a good storyline, with characters that I can at least like if not identify with. The book should have twists and turns to keep me interested and it should elicit some emotion from me - I have to care.
This book has it all. Anger, fear, lust, love, pathos, sadness, happiness, humour and relief - these are some of the emotions running through this book.
The main character who is telling the story is feistier that the feistiest feisty person I have known plus she has a great sense of humour and I loved her dry wit as she narrates the story.
The characters are well defined and I could feel their love and pain.
This is the first vampire book I have read and I loved it. So, in answer to the question at the beginning, no - books about vampires are not just for teenagers.
Connie is sassy and I found her funny and full of attitude. She can hold her own and is no wall flower.
Another book that I found easy to read and from the first chapter I was enthralled in the story.
A freebie when I downloaded it, I then went on to mark the other books in The Angler series to be bought and read. Hopefully Connie keeps her sassiness, I'll be disappointed otherwise.
This is a rather good one i have to say. It has all the stuff a good Vampire book should have.
HOT floppy haired Vampire, check.
Gorgeous woman with curves and an attitude, check.
Kick arse action, check.
The story and plot are good it's an easy read and it's good fun! There's much more but YOU should read it and find out, will be reading book 2.
