Kate O'Mara is one of those instantly recognizable faces, at least to anyone from the UK, even if, like me, you were unable to put a name to the face. This, her autobiography, is interestingly enough written to give pleasure to even someone not very interested in actors and actresses. Innocent until fairly late in life, losing her virginity via rape on Barnes Common...it goes on from there. The book concentrates on the theatrical and general acting world, but, thinking of the laughable engagement of some other actresses (Peggy Ashcroft, Jane Fonda, Julie Christie, Vanessa Redgrave) in socio-political affairs, perhaps this is no bad thing.

An up and down life of personal entanglements --somewhat glossed over, one feels...-- and geinuine devotion to stage acting. The last third or quarter of the book seemed to be less interesting to me than the rest.

Extraordinary book - honest and revealing. I met Kate O'Mara once and she was delightful and friendly - not at all the rather fearsome character she often portrayed. Well worth reading
