The 3rd episode in the continuing adventures of Master sargeant Aida Sorilla and the Solari Task Force sent to confront an alien aggression.
In the same way that Alexander Kent (Douglas Reeman) communicates the manouevres of a sailing ship action more effectively than C S Lewis, Evan Currie somehow manages to get across the intricacies of a space-borne action even though completely fictional far better than anyone I've read recently.
Aida's exploits too are worthy of HALO's S117 "Master Chief". The space-elevator episode is particularly good.
One gets the impression that both sides haven't really been trying their best until now, but the aliens have given away too many techy secrets, allowing the humans to leap ahead, and the humans have resisted enough to be really annoying to the point of being worth "sending the fleet". Book 4 needs to have a flame-proof cover.

An excellent find I have to say. Evan Currie is not (yet) a big name in science fiction but I think he may well be on his way. I initally bought the first two Odyssey books then having been very impressed bought the first of the three so far published Warriors Wings quadrilogy. Brilliant read for not much money.

Firstly lets get the elephant in the room dealt with - ability to write well. Unfortunately the area of military sci-fi has a goodly proportion of utterly unreadable trash in abundance and if I'm honest when I downloaded the first practically free Evan Currie self published book I was well prepared to dump it after a few pages.

I'm very glad to report that I very quickly came to the reverse opinion. He really can write very well indeed with that deceptively simple manner that some of the very best fiction writers manage. Easy to read, literary and descriptive. I hate badly written novels which is why I tend to read the likes of Hamilton or similar because one knows that the writer does possess penmanship. Evan whilst operating in a different part of the sci-fi spectrum is as good.

His charaterisation is top class and very quickly you actually care for the main people in the books.

This is the third of the four planned Warriors Wings books and it deals with the follow on events of an attack by alien species on a remote world occupied by humans. The storyline is tight, the action scenes well dealt with and Evan Currie manages to avoid too much bombast and adds a flavour of humility and pathos as well. You have to suspend a degree of scientific reality in order to allow the story to flow as Eisensteinian and Newtonian physics are generally ignored. I can deal with that for the sake of a rollicking good tale.

I have really enjoyed this series, painted so realistically by the brilliant Ewan Currie. The human battle to save the planet Hayden and it's earth colony, is a fascinating one and the characters are very real interesting people. I shall now order the next series - watch this space!

Just when they think all is going well. In the 3rd book, we pick up the story from humans on the planet (Hayden) reaffirming their control over this world...but with an annoying alien leftover presence. A sudden negative turn of events in controlled space.....it all hangs in the balance again, but superior tech can leave you a little over confident. Especially when you think your human enemy are barely past banging the rocks together. Great read.

A very enjoyable continuation of this gripping series. Currie's ability to make you feel that you are where the action is, be it in Jungles, Space Elevators, or the Bridge of a Star Ship, is second to none.

Fantastic. I dont want to give to much away, but cannot recommend this series enough. This has the makings of a movie with the right director! Not your standard 'space marine grunt' military sci-fi affair but more Act of Valour in space but so much better! A really good Space Special Forces / Fleet combat read.

I agree that the 'tether cable incident' is amazing. Such an original concept.

I highly recommend buying all three books to date and hope the saga continues!

Great plot and the space drive mechanics are well thought out.
Interesting motivations for the aliens, and aliens that are easily believable.

A hugely immersive experience on planet - you are there on the planet from page one.

I like the style and action approach of this author in general and in this series in particular. Great to dip in and out of over a few days or sit down and dash through in one session. Looking forward to future releases from him.
