- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 November 2011Bought this as my 9 year old was showing interest in playing my dreadnought but found my guitar too big to reach around and the steel strings very painful. This guitar was just the job.
I was tempted by various blue painted or more rock styled children's guitars but none seemed to feature any decent wood at all so I doubted their tonal qualities. This guitar is admittedly laminated of course but it is spruce which for the price is incredible.
As others have said it takes a while to get in tune but if you spend the time stretching the strings and even leaving it tuned a tone sharp for the weekend it does settle down and keeps in tune. This is a scaled down version of a cheap Classical guitar that I already own with the usual high action and quite slack string tension which means it doesn't play like a rocker's guitar especially further up the neck where the high action really starts to tell. And don't even think about string bends up there unless you want to watch your fingers disappear under all the other strings.
But that's not what this guitar is for. I love playing it. It's tone is not at all shrill or dull and is pleasing to play and listen to whether strummed flamenco or folk style or when applying some Pink Floyd arpeggios. Just as important it is great to look at too in a sophisticated way, all deep conker browns and tobaccoey yellows with lots of lacquer, so that my son wants to pick it up whenever he walks past it, and that was it's intention.
I added a couple of black metal strap buttons at the base and heel and threw in a black strap too which really set it off so that he can do some rock poses for a while until he settles down to realising that the playing's the thing. Think he's just found a new best friend. Get this guitar if you want your under 11 to fall in love with a lifetime of guitar playing. It ticks every box.
<OCTOBER 2015 UPDATE> Just as an update, I spent last night with this child's guitar altering the ending to David Gilmour's new album, Rattle That Lock, because I didn't like the way it ended with yet another fade out, a hoot and then some indeterminate cracking and thumping noises that sound like a German Shepherd dog running in panic away from an angry Little Owl in the rain. I can confirm that by playing along with old David's nylon stung guitar and then carrying on a bit to a proper conclusion then adding some eq and reverb this simple, cheap nylon strung kids' music box sounds pretty equal to David's. Can he REALLY own one too?

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 December 2012This was purchased to use as a spare guitar for children in our school when they come for lessons. The guitar has a nice sound/tone with it and is the perfect size for younger children. This fits well with children from ages 6 - 10 and is the perfect size for them to play. This is an excellent beginner guitar.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 December 2012Bought for 9 year old to learn with. Great sound and resonance with a good finish. Don't be tempted to buy a full size hoping they will grow into it. Hands need to fit around the neck and be able to reach strings comfortably. 3/4 size should last until 12 years old (depending on frame). Nylon strings kinder to young fingers. Comes with a cheap cover. I sent this back 3 times as it is too small in the depth fabric which knocks the guitar out of tune every time you put it on. Normans good comms via email, although problem not resolved. Same size kept being sent and then handle came away from main body as poorly sewn. My advice- get a better cover that can accommodate music sheets as well. Bought stand and electronic tuner; both of which have been used well.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 June 2016This guitar is a great starter guitar for when you want to make sure that your child enjoys playing guitar before buying a better one. The difference is apparent once a better quality guitar is purchased. It served my son well for a year or so before buying a full size fender semi acoustic. I'm glad we bought this one first.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 December 2017Great guitar. I bought this as a Christmas present for my 8 year old daughter and have to say that for £60 it is an absolute bargain. This is not a toy but a proper instrument. It has good tone, a decent action and is easy to play. Even though it is 3/4 size I had no difficulty playing it myself. As a first guitar it is a bit of a no-brainer as it is light years ahead of the 'instruments' advertised in toy stores. I have a number of classical guitars ranging from an entry level Santos Martinez to a Juan Hernandez professor, and while this guitar isn't going to sound anything like the latter it doesn't let itself down tonewise. Playability is also good with a neck and fingerboard which feel much better than the price suggests. The gig bag this comes with won't offer much, (if any), protection and something a little more substantial will probably be needed when this gets hauled outdoors for guitar lessons at school - but it's the guitar you are buying in any case, not the bag. As with any classical guitar with new strings this won't go into tune straight away. If you don't already have, one buy an acoustic / classical guitar tuner for around £5 and tune the low E, A and D strings up 1/2 a tone and the G, B and high E strings up a full tone. Leave for 24 hours or so and then tuning shouldn't be a problem. After doing this I didn't experience any abnormal tuning issues. In summary this is a great first guitar for a beginner. With decent tone and good playability it is an instrument which should help beginners develop, not hinder them.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 September 2012Very dissapointed! I bought the guitar for my 9 year old to learn to play the guitar. He has not touched it muched and has not even started lessons when the white around one of the tuning pegs crumbled off while I was tuning it. I have been playing my guitar for almost 20 years without any problem except for replacing broken strings.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 October 2014Wanted to give a 5 but after teacher tried tuning the quitar he said one of bolts that tightens strings was faulty.
Therefore have had to return. Would be nice to be able to request a automatic exchange for when this one is returned that I get a replacement sent out. However it states you have to wait for money to be refunded before ordering again. Bit off a hassle. Especially when price has gone up and I've paid once for 1st class delivery.
