"A crucial reference for any budget wanderer."--Time
"Vagabonding easily remains in my top-10 list of life-changing books. Why? Because one incredible trip, especially a long-term trip, can change your life forever. And Vagabonding teaches you how to travel (and think), not just for one trip, but for the rest of your life."--Tim Ferriss, from the foreword
From the Inside Flap
Vagabonding is about taking time off from your normal life--from six weeks to four months to two years--to discover and experience the world on your own terms. Veteran shoestring traveler Rolf Potts shows how anyone armed with an independent spirit can achieve the dream of extended overseas travel. Potts gives the necessary information on:
- financing your travel time
- determining your destination
- adjusting to life on the road
- working and volunteering overseas
- handling travel adversity
- re-assimilating back into ordinary life
Not just a plan of action, vagabonding is an outlook on life that emphasizes creativity, discovery, and the growth of the spirit. Visit the vagabonding community's hub at www.vagabonding.net.

I really enjoyed reading this book, the language used it very fluent and a joy to read. Quotes from other writing, philosophers, travelers made it all the more appealing. There are some accounts of specific places and situation he visited to go along with the writing. It's fairly organised, but even if you don't feel it is the individual sections help target specific information you may need. It certainly made me feel a ease and provided more insight into traveling.
I'm glad I just bought this on recommendation from a friend without reading the reviews, I couldn't fault the book at all and couldn't put it down. The travel plans begin...
This book completely changed my view on travel, and expense!
I have put off traveling for too long, thinking that it would cost me far to much, and that I would never be able to sustain
such adventures long enough due to money.
This book has put everything into perspective. I greatly look forward to taking what I have learnt,
and to embark on life changing travels across the world.
I now know how to do it, how I can afford it, and most importantly; I have no fear of doing it.
