I was VERY unsure about which radio to choose. Up to now I'd been listening to LBC on my phone but data usage mounted up each month and I knew a personal radio had to be bought.
I did seriously consider the Pure 2500 but didn't want to pay so much. I considered the Roberts Sport - slightly cheaper than Blighty - but preferred the red and cream look of the Blighty.
The first one I was sent had slightly sharp corners - I contacted their customer service and they promptly asked for serial number and advised I arrange a return and replacement through Amazon and they would note the fault.
The second I was sent has been superb.
Battery life - I've been using it on DAB about 90mins daily and it's only gone down to 1 battery bar after a week so claimed battery life (so far) seems accurate.
I've used it at both the Gyms I use. Sometimes, I'll get some 'burbling' on one or two DAB channels - nothing serious and usually it reverts to quality signal if I change the position where it's been placed. FM is usually fine although occasionally I'l have to switch to mono to avoid a stereo hiss but I tend to listen to Talk radio in the gym so no probs.
I used it on the Grand Central Bradford to London train and it was MAGNIFICENT in Carriage C . Every Dab station was clear and not a burble! I rescanned stations once in London and it found close to 100! It was great to be able to flip stations from Radio 4, LBC, Radio 2, Aire etc and everything - Music or talk - was clear a s a bell and quality (apart from those pesky tunnels or when the banking was close and high - not often!
I've kept the included earphone buds 'for non Gym use'. I found them to be very good providing a good range from Good bass to clear treble. It's worth noting that my Sony MDRZX310 on ear headphones only work in Mono. I checked this out with the View Quest customer service and it's a known possible problem with any headphones that have a mic. The radio circuitry often finds it tricky to work properly with any headphones that have 3 rather than the usual 2 bands on the little headphone plug (the 3rd band is for the Mic circuit). The sony phones worked properly only when I held the mic button down so be careful if you use other than the provided phones. That said, all my other non-mic buds and phones worked perfectly well.
I keep my radio in a small Isnug case four protection when in the gym.
It looks good, it sounds great but most importantly, it sounds great in all the places I wanted to use it.
The radio itself is quite stylish, probably one of the best looking portable radios I have ever seen. The radio itself is lightweight and the build quality is solid , it fits comfortably in your hand while you are using the radio or fits nicely in your pocket. The radio also has a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery which means it can be recharged and there is no need for changing the batteries; all though some people might not like this.
When you first switch on the radio it will welcome you with it's bright and visible 1.6 inch screen and it will start searching for DAB/DAB+ stations available in your area, once it has picked up the stations you are pretty much good to go! This radio also has an FM function if you happen to be in a weak area for DAB or you just want to use the function for some extra stations you won't find on DAB. While I was using my radio I found that the signal I was picking up on both DAB and FM was really good and that it can pick up weaker signals well.
Battery life of this radio is advertised as up to 10 hours of playback and I am pleased to say that this is correct and it indeed it lasts close to 10 hours. To save battery life you can alter the way the display works, you can have the backlight on for a certain amount of time and this ranges from 10 to 180 seconds and an option for always on but having it on for longer is not recommended as it will shorten the battery life.
The earphones that come with the unit are used also as an aerial for the radio, I would recommend using your own earphones though as the sound quality of the earphones it comes with are not that great! With my unit I was using the Sony EX650AP In-ear earphones which improves the quality of the sound but not greatly because the units sound is not the best and has no EQ setting but there is a setting for DAB stations which is called DRC which can improve the sound a little. There is a problem I found with the unit; it will not work properly with earphones that have an in-line mic so I had to use an adapter for it to work properly.
There are also a few problems I have had with this radio while I've been using it over the month. Firstly the casing especially on the back is prone to scratching quite easily which means you don't get that nice black finish because overtime it covers in scratches which is a shame because the unit looks really nice! I've also found that when the radio on DAB mode struggles to find a signal or you are going through the stations it can sometimes freeze for about 10 seconds and it becomes a pain when you are trying to switch stations. My final down side to the radio is I was finding it would reset as if it was the first time I was using the radio so all presets and stations were lost and it was scanning to get the stations in the area again but this has only happened twice but it is annoying.
Overall I would recommend this radio because of it's style and it does the job really well, it is easy to setup and use. The battery life is as advertised (up to 10 hours) and the radio is good at picking up weaker signals and strong signals. Despite the bad points I have given this radio it is really good for the price.
Nice design, very sleek and modern looking. This is my second purchase because I accidentally dropped a cup directly on the screen and cracked it. Surprisingly it still works but it is too difficult for me to read the screen and follow the menu.
