OK - so the title I have given this review is (and was meant to be) tongue-in-cheek, because restraining a rampant marsupial is - I should think - probably one of the very few things for which these Velcro ties are totally unsuitable!
Realistically, the potential list of uses is endless. Most people will (very sensibly) use this product for tidying the spaghetti-like muddle of cables that most modern electrical appliances seem to spawn. I actually cut a couple of lengths of this 10mm wide Velcro strip to provide some extra support to the quick-release clips on my detachable camera strap: I'm not sure whether they actually need it, but it does provide a little extra reassurance against the strap unexpectedly coming apart and tipping my expensive camera to the ground - much cheaper than the proprietary alternative being offered by a famous photographic brand, and it seems to do the trick! Being a 5m roll, it should last me a good while too!
Perfect for bundling cables. I've tried many things over the years - cardboard tubes (take up space), elastic bands (get old and snap, leaving residue), cableties (have to cut them off each time) - but this is definitely the best. Just don't be stingy when cutting, otherwise it'll be a pain to secure each time.
On ones I use a lot (chargers etc) I attach one end to the cable to stop it getting lost - loose enough so it can still move up and down, but tight enough that it won't slide past the plug. You can just roll it on itself a few times and be careful not to unroll it too far each time, but I like to loop the end around the cable, plastic side against itself, leaving a teardrop-shaped hole, then sew/superglue it together.
The drawers of my desk were a complete spaghetti tangle of leads, connectors, chargers etc. This product has at a stroke tidied things up, and I can now see immediately what I've got, and pick out what I need. The way it is supplied and packaged means you can cut what you need for each individual case - the full 30mm width seems to deal admirably with heavy mains leads, while you can cut a section down the middle to give you 2 x 15mm wide ties for light cables such as USB leads and chargers. You should get at least 50 ties out of this pack, maybe twice that or more once you work out the optimum length and width for each circumstance.
Bought this to help with cable management for an office setup (previously we had used cableties, but they were a challenge to remove!). Could not be happier - a single roll did an entire 15-seat office for us (no more than 4cm needed at a time) and each 'tie' is easily reused or removed. I do a lot of technical work and this has become indispensable - earning a permanent roll in my toolkit!
Quite aside from that, this is a much more environmentally friendly alternative to single use cableties (or the extremely fiddly reusable variant).
As others have commented this stuff has many uses apart from the intended cable tidy thing, so something akin to cableties or gaffer tape in that respect. Attaching dog racing muzzles to the dog collar, that's one, and as a tree stake tie, that's another. I'm not 100% sure it's going to be rainproof in the long run, but it still seems fine after 6 months or so.
Tried these as an alternative to plastic cableties for management as I was constantly adding/removing cables to bunches creating excessive waste - These are the perfect solution!
The velcro is just thin enough for even the smallest of cable bunches but not too thin that it would snag or pinch the the cables. You cut everything to size on a per-use basis so theres never any wastage.
This Velcro product is really wide which means you can cut it down the middle and make it last even longer. I use it for tying every cable in the house from headphones to thick extension cords and because you can cut it to size there is no waste. In the past I had bought Velcro ties that came pre-cut but I always found there were spare bits left over - don't have that problem with this cut-it-yourself product. There's far less waste and it lasts for ages. Highly recommended.
I love this product. I cut off as much as I need, so no waste. I almost bought the set of 5 single velcro ties, and am glad I didn't. It would have been poor value. I also like the width. It still works on thicker cables, but is 'delicate' enough to work on my phone charger without looking like overkill!
It has tidied up most every cord in the house, including the tv cable in the kitchen (finally the kitchen counter looks tidy!) my phone charger and laptop power cord, which travels in my briefcase and is always tangled with stuff.
One tip: I used a hot glue gun and hot glued in place one end of the velcro tie wrapped around the power cord, so it stays on the cord even when I unwrap the velcro strap. That way it doesn't go missing. I travel alot, and my phone and laptop cables are now neatly in one corner of my luggage. Great product.
