I bought this album as a direct result of reading Jeanette Leech's book "Seasons They Change" -which is an excellent work incidentally- and I've been very pleased with some of the other cd's I've bought as a result, but I found this disappointing. Tom Rapp's singing is too "reedy" for me and most of the songs are insubstantial and a little "pretentious". It's an interesting slice of late 1960s music, but for me is not in the same league as other major works from this period. Perhaps you had to hear it at the time....

A pleasant surprise after 40 years - these recordings bring back memories rich with melodies and harmonies. I actually saw Tom Rapp and The Pearls in concert many years ago. To say the least they were "pleasantly different" from the hard rock and roll concerts at that time. Tom seduces you to think and take away from each album - as only a good artist can.

"Perfection of a kind was what he was after. The poetry he invented was easy to understand. He knew human folly like the back of his hand."
That is the poetry Tom Rapp. He was one of the very best songwriters to emerge in the 60's. Tom Rapp was the Pearls. A very gifted songwriter who should have garnered great praise. The audience did not latch on to this great music. The critics did not do their job and Tom disappeared and became a civil rights lawyer. It is a shame but I can still sing his praises. These are two of his best records.

I was thrilled when I found this. I have been a HUGE PBS fan since their first LP and I am thrilled to be able to listen in the car or at my desk without pulling out the old LP's
