The book is written from an American perspective and this shows in the terminology, the writing and the photography - but cycling is universal enough that readers from afar will be able to enjoy the book. There is also a leaning towards the low-budget, DIY grifter end of the cycling community (hence all the instructions for building and repairing second-hand bikes) rather than those who prefer to shell out thousands on hi-tech shiny new racers.
This book does not contain everything there is to know about bicycles and their maintenance, but it does contain a lot of the most interesting and useful stuff, and it cannot fail to widen your perspective on cycling, not just as a sport or a mode of transport, but as a way of life. The writer did a great job of gathering a lifetime's knowledge and distilling it into a series of informative and entertaining articles.
