Holy. Hell. I'm not a fan of rollercoasters, but this was one of the best rides of my life.
LK Farlow is a beautiful writer. Not only are her stories phenomenal in their plot and with their characters, but the words themselves are poetic. This is only her second book and I'm not going to lie, she puts more experienced authors to shame. There isn't a single aspect of this book that I didn't love.
The push and pull. The back and forth. The love and hate. Both between Azzy and Drake, and me and LK. I wanted to throw things at her for real. She was killing me. Taunting and teasing me with their story. And. It. Was. Perfect.
If it's possible, I love AUB more than CUR. Having the whole gang there, and it being about all of them, while still focusing on Azzy and D? I'm running out of words for how amazing this story is, and how well-written it is. But that to me is what makes an incredible writer. And an absolutely fan-freaking-tastic story. None of the characters were flat. Not the main characters, and not the side characters. They all added a little something, and even alluded to the possibility of their own individual stories. Which I am impatiently awaiting.
I love how you can tell that LK knows what she's talking about when it comes to the setting of the story and also their occupations. And I seriously hear their accents in my head as I read, which adds to the authenticity of the story.
Like I said, there isn't a single aspect about Azalea and Drake's story that I didn't love, except maybe that there wasn't an epilogue that had it end in exactly the way I wanted it to. But to be honest, the way AUB ended was perfect for them.
Totally on #TeamDrazzy for life.
One of the things I loved most about our H/h is the fact that they were both so stubborn. He's bound and determined to get his girl and she's equally determined to resist him. Little does he know she's wanted him for a long time, as has he wanted her, but she never really communicated it in words that he'd understand. Let the fun times begin....
I love Azzy Jo so much. She's a Southern woman to a T. She's beautiful, has so much sass and would give the shirt off her back if you asked. Drake is a man that is all that and a bag of chips! He loves kids and he's sexy as all get out. He's going to get this girl in his bed if it's the last thing he does. And as he's not above using their best friends to make it happen.
Ms. Farlow writes characters that are just the right combo of sweet, sassy and sexy. I love these two together so much. There wasn't a page I read that I wasn't experiencing any number of emotions from laughter at Azzy Jo's snark or Drake's swoonworthy moves. I for one can never get enough of this small town and it's residents!
Uphill Battle was my first read from L.K. Farlow. A new to me author, and I admit I rather enjoyed most of this story. Being a southern gal myself, I really enjoyed the southern style that LK made for us here.
Drake and Azalea, I don't know if I've ever met two hardheaded people before. Azalea more so then Drake. But you could definitely feel the unspoken love these two felt for one another. Their chemistry undeniable. Not only that, but all the characters made the book and storyline come to life. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.
Drake & Azalea have been in love with each other since high school, the only problem is, everyone knows it but them. Misunderstanding after misunderstanding combined with the worst timing and absolute worst communication skills on the planet, they just can't seem to get their stars aligned.
With a little more than just a little help from their friends, they may finally be ready for their HEA.
I really, really wanted to enjoy this book more than I did. I love this gang of friends, and was oh, so patiently for Azalea & Drake's story to unfold.
The thing that stopped me from giving this 5 stars was the immature, high school behavior that went on FOR FREAKING EVER! I was so dang frustrated with both the H & the h the entire time. I kept screaming POOP OR GET OFF THE POT ALREADY! GAH! JUST GET OVER YOURSELVES ALREADY! lol
At the end of the day, I can say that I did like the book, just needed a little less of the high school drama to love it.
Azalea and Drake were such a fun couple. Drake definitely ranks right up there with Cash on the swoon scale. Azzy Jo was a stubborn spitfire, but finally matured by the end. This book was frustrating at times with the games they played with each other. It just really hits home how important communication is in a relationship.
Another job well done! I cannot wait for more Southern Roots!
