HASH(0x88bff360) out of 5 stars Guaranteed to rid your space of any unwanted females! 30 Nov. 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Got a girlfriend you just can't seem to get rid of of? Too many feminists giving you their opinion on things? Well, just pop this lovely CD on your stereo the next time these unwanted females visit you and if she's not running for the door by the end of the 2nd song, maybe you should rethink your position. What the Smiths are to adolescent closet homosexuals, the Mentors are to loud, alcoholic, misogynistic jerks. Which only means (of course) that they're one of the greatest bands around. "Up the Dose" is a classic platter of Mentors mayhem. Get it!

HASH(0x88bffa5c) out of 5 stars Did He Really Just Say What I Think He Said..........????? 20 May 2005
By David Girod - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I first head about the Mentors when reading a review of "Up the Dose" in a metal magazine called RIP. The reviewer was tearing into the disk, saying it was the audial equivilant of listening to someone belch repeatedly. My curiousity was piqued so I ran out immediately and picked up a copy. After one listen to the entire disk my sides hurt so much because I was laughing so hard. The Mentors are definately not for everyone. El Duce and company are the metal equivalant of South Park. You will be listening to "On The Rag" and asking yourself "Did he really just say that?!" The Mentors are, crude, rude, crass, sexist...and actually a pretty good band. When you first hear El Duce's vocals, the garage-band quality sound, you will be wondering why you threw your money away, but if you hang with it, you will see that it works. I can't explain it, but the Mentors and their sound are addictive. I can't state this enough though, if you are offended easily don't buy this album. The subject matter gets pretty raw on most of the songs found here, and unless you are equipped with a good sense of humor spend your dough elsewhere.
HASH(0x88ce10e4) out of 5 stars It's Wrong, But It's Right 16 Feb. 2014

When these guys first came out, there was a little stirring in the rock world. They were plain raw and surprisingly funny. Whether or not that was their intention remains to be seen to this day. But the Mentors are rock, just with a slightly perverted twist. It takes a special sort of fan to be a Mentors fan, and after listening to this album, you will understand why. It's basic rock with crude lyrics and yet surprisingly enjoyable if you don't have high expectations.

HASH(0x88ce10d8) out of 5 stars The Digital Age of Duce 24 Feb. 2004

I can remember the scene vividly from my younger days: The day I first laid eyes on The Mentors' record, 'Up The Dose.' Mind yo, this scene was back in the day when the term 'Album Art' actually meant something, and UTD didn't disappoint. What this album cover had was every young man's dream! Women they wanted, and men they wanted to be! I still find myself waking up at night after dreaming of 'Red Lingere Woman' and staring longingly into the darkness of night wondering where she could be.
As for the music, you could set this album as the virtual soundtrack to live your life by! Such classics as the success inspiring 'Secretary Hump' and 'Couch Test Casting' have driven many to successes that they may have otherwise missed, not having motivation.
El Duce, Sickie Wifebeater, and Dr. Heathen Scum don't stop at inspiring future professinals, heavens no! They continue on to tackle issues of women's rights and sexual equality with masterpieces including 'S.F.C.C.' and 'On the Rag.' The boys even further push the envelope by dealing with sexuality and its effect on society, much before it was a 'buzz' issue. Check out 'Heterosexuals Have the Right to Rock' to see what I mean!
Now with the advancements in technology, 'Up the Dose' has been reissued on CD, and with extra new tracks! While the small case format won't satisfy my attraction to 'Red Lingere Woman' the disc's sonic fidelity and true to life replication of the true Mentors sound is worth the price of admission and then some!
Do yourself a favor, and improve your life today! Get Duce'd!
