What can be said of this truly amazing album by Gloria Estefan that can justify it's innovation. For a start Gloria has returned with a sound unlike anything she has ever done before and unlike her contemporaries she has not resorted to a musical form in order to impact the current top 40.
It's production values are truly outstanding and if given the correct marketing this could be the album of 2003. I managed to obtain an advanced promo copy and while not expecting too much I was completely overwhelmed with it's lyrical and melodic content. Outstanding tracks include the soon to be released first single "Wrapped" with it's raw acoustic sound combined with peruvian pan-pipes and mandolin guitar, it haunts you for a long time after it's finished with it's harmonic vocals and poetic lyrics. The opening track "A little push" is truly surprising as Gloria's lush vocals float atop a bed of brooding baselines and moody guitar rifts, finding her visit a place she has never been before. The acoustic, guitar driven ballad "Your Picture" places Gloria in very raw territory as her rich, honey soaked vocals accompany some beautifully lush classical guitar playing with a very modern arrangement. Sounding more genuine on this album than she ever has before, it is like a storybook of her life and because it's poetic lyrics are based around life experiences they certainly relate to us all. Here is an album, dripping with untailored artistry and class. 5 STARS

An inspiring, beautiful album, combining latin rhythms, rock and world music; with Gloria Estefan exploring love, life, and a celebration of being. Although the 'bonus dvd' seems somewhat unnecessary and surplus, the album itself is great. Highly recommended!

This is the best english language album Gloria has made and it has 4 of the songs in spanish at the end that sound even better than the english versions, which are pretty damned good.My favourite is In The Meantime. There are no electronic/dance sounding tracks, just Gloria's voice leading the musicians.Unwrapped is a tremendous achievement for someone twenty years into their career and shows that Gloria still cares about producing quality material. Some great lyrics on this cd.Track number 12, I Wish You, has words which Gloria says sums up her positive attitude to life:
"Deceive me, hurt and mislead me
All that I wish you is love
Abuse me, damage and use me
All that I wish you is love

Tremendous!

The accompanying dvd was made by Gloria's son Nayib and is mainly filmed in and around Miami with contributions from local people and even Gloria's mother.
