Pleased to say that this is everything I hoped it would be. Aereogramme were one of the best Scottish bands of the last 20 years but never achieved the recognition they deserved. It remains to be seen whether this latest guise will see Craig and Iain reach any level of commercial success but you have to admire their perserverence. Musically, this continues the Aereogramme trajectory, further developing the sweeping sounds of My Heart Has A Wish You Would Not Go while maintaining a brooding sense of menace. Craig is still a deeply underrated singer to, here's wishing them the best, eh?

I am/was/is a massive Aereogramme fan, went to gigs in and around Edinburgh & Glasgow when Aereogramme were starting out they played venues to 15 people but had the songwriting talent and sound worthy of festival headliners. Aereogramme sadly are no longer with us the official word was that the collective finances for Aereogramme had hit an all time low and that the band consistently made losses from tours. Which was a shame as that band really deserved the success that bands like Biffy Clyro now get.

So, 2 members of Aereogramme (Craig B & Iain Cook) lick their wounds get back on the throne and come back as The Unwinding Hours. This album sort of progresses on from where Aereogramme left off. I bought this on release day so when I'm trying to think back to my first listen it seemed like an entirely different listener experience but still had some familiarity to Aereogramme. I was unsure what to think of this album at first but then when I gave it a few more spins it all became clear... it's better than the previous band it's very cleverly put together and as a LIVE act The Unwinding Hours definitely deliver the goods. Craig B's vocals are of a very dark and somber nature telling tales of lost love, battles with depression and life struggles. There is even room for some balladry. In short I think he is a genius and master of poetic paraphrasing.

this album is dense and chocked to the brim with lots of great guitar riffs and eery thought provoking musical passages.

I'd give this a 4 stars as for a debut it's quite well put together.

Aereogramme was a fantastic band, The Unwinding Hours is the fantastic continuation of this tradition. The songs are a little slower than Aereogramme's but nevertheless great songs.

After Aereogramme's brilliant swansong "My Heart Has a Wish That You Would Not Go", Craig B and Iain Cooke follow up with "the Unwinding Hours". In places it seems like a change in direction, in others it seems more like a change of pace. The visceral bits of the earlier Aereogramme material are all but erased, but it couldn't be described as an acoustic album. For one thing, acoustic albums struggle to sound this big. The sheer size and depth of some of the dynamic bits on the album make me think of Mogwai, Sigur Ros, and yes, Aerogramme.

For fans of big atmospheric interesting beautiful music, and people who aren't fans of big atmospheric interesting beautiful music yet.
