'An untamed land' was one of the best books I have ever read. I would strongly recommend this book to everyone who enjoys good, quality historical fiction. Mrs. Snelling definately has a gift for writing. I have just finished the sequel, 'A new day rising', and I can't wait to read 'A land to call home'. I love the way Mrs. Snelling incorporates the Lord into her books. So many Christian authors today don't bother to write about Jesus Christ,it's refreshing to read a book that centers around Him! Mrs. Snelling, all I can say is, please write more!

I enjoyed reading about members of a Norwegian family who went to America in order to have enough land to live on. There was great hardship and it was interesting to read of the tenacity which kept them learning new skills despite many setbacks & for most of the group their Christian faith kept them gping. There was a rather sad ending for one of the women but the book did end with a hint of encouragement for the future . Hope there is a sequel!

It showed what it was really like trying to build a life through terrible winters, death and depression.
Anyone interested in history of the west would enjoy this book.
Christians would enjoy the way prayer is central to the early settlers. It showed the expected gender roles and the problems strong women had to endure.

Really liked this book,so l bought a further 3, they soon become addictive the storyline is so good and the caricatures were so courageous. However after the first book l felt religion got more intense so l started to skip bits, by the last book with Andrew and Ellie l had had enough, don't know if l will buy any more books by this author.

An interesting story about late 19th C migrants from Norway to Dakota, USA, making a hard life for themselves. Characters well drawn, descriptions made me feel part of the story and part of the era. Very well written, and will certainly be reading more of Lauraine Snelling's books.

Got the book because it looked interesting and was free. I was so enthralled with it's candid story line, showing the history of the real settlers of the USA, their hardships and there joys that by the time I had finished the book I was ready to buy the second in the series.

An interesting insight into the hardships endured by emigrants to North America in the late 1800s. I felt that I was trying to overcome the often unwelcoming attitudes and conditions but enjoying the kindness of some strangers and any successes. The frequent references to God seemed natural in the circumstances and were not intrusive.
