We were superglued to the pages of this book, and you'll be hooked too...this sexy, gritty tale is Sarra Manning's first novel and she's nailed it.

I read it over a few days and loved it!
At first, I thought it was loosely based on Fifty Shades of Grey, but then I realised it was published in 2009... So it was a while ago! Then I realised it reminded me of "Pretty Woman" (one of my favourite films...) and I let myself enjoy it. I would say that neither main characters are typically ones we love, yet throughout the story they grew on me. And by the end I had a lot of respect for what they had found.
Ultimately, I love Sarra Manning's style...
If you like to get lost in a love story that has ups and well as downs, and escape into a world where nothing is candy coated, this is the book for you!
Enjoy - I did! :)
Can't wait to read the next Sarra Manning book but I might just read this one again it was that good!
I usually stick to mystery thrillers, but I like to mix things up and I was not sure what to expect with this book.
On the negative side, the author though Grace and her friend Lilly tries to capture twentysomething speech patterns, but the constant use of 'like', 'cool' and 'totally', soon grates. The scenes between Grace and her boss Kiki at the magazine are somewhat amusing, but feel too derivative of the Devil Wears Prada. The novel is quite long [560 pages in paperback] and while it doesn't drag, it could have done with a good sub-plot or developing some of the minor characters to justify the length.
However, a major plus is the central characters. Grace is well developed and become more complicated as the story moves on. Perhaps surprisingly, I actually really liked Vaughn, even at his most moody [even if his back story could have been fleshed out more] and I felt invested in there relationship. The ending was a bit predictable and could have done with an epilogue, but it was very satisfactory.
All in all, I think this was a good read despite the flaws. Despite not really being my genre, I enjoyed it for the most part.
