This starts with King being a young prospect. He meets Elena in a store on his way back, injured, from a club job. They are instantly attracted to each other despite the fact that Elena is not free as she is engaged to the leader of a dangerous drugs cartel. Hiding her ring, she offers to treat King's wound even though he doesn't look like the kind of guy she should be talking to.

The tense writing style had me reading each page with trepidation as I was expecting violence to break out any second or for the pair to be discovered.

This differed from normal MC books as it's solely based on King and Elena. He doesn't sleep around and started off as quite a gentle, naive young man, unsure of how to speak to women. Seeing him develop into a man was quite unique.

The story concludes on a cliffhanger but it had to do so as the journey was only half done. This is a story of King going from young prospect to club president and the journey of how he gets there. Elena unfortunately gets caught in the middle of King wanting her but realising that it would bring war to the club. For Elena, it's quite a sad story.

"I'm being torn in different directions at a crossroads, trying to give a little piece of myself to each without falling apart completely.
The stress fractures are starting to show."

Is love worth fighting a war over? King is a prospect for the Fallen Aces, having left the monotony of his life on the farm behind after a casual meeting with the MC. Deciding that his future is part of the club he pledges his loyalty and justice to them. King proves himself to be a trustworthy brother, having their back in all things until a woman turns his head.

Elena, tricked into leaving Cuba to come to America to care for her beastly father, is living her version of Hell. Engaged to the local kingpin, Carlos, she feels trapped by her situation. Struggling to survive as she is an illegal immigrant, she can't work or even leave. Faced with her mother's plight at home, her father dying and a ruthless man that offers her salvation if she agrees to become his plaything, Elena is in a dark place. Yet the awkwardly shy man on the back of a bike causes her heart to flutter. Exchanging a few words, stolen glances, leads to something more...

Elena and King start a love affair that will make them question everything, their loyalties to their family, club and each other. Choices have to be made but can they live with the consequences?

Unrequited is the first half of this story and it is a slow burn, a tentative romance between a prospect that is too loyal to his club to forgo the rules for his heart. A woman held hostage by her obligations to her mother and father, who have kept secrets hidden from her. Two star crossed lovers who had they met at another time and place their love would be flourish but instead it is buried deep below their duty.

When I pick up a Max Henry book I know I’m going to get a good solid read, one that I will enjoy. This is no exception and for me it is probably my favourite of hers so far. It didn’t quite reach my 5 star rating but it wasn’t far from it. Be warned though, this is a two part story so not all is resolved in this offering. If this is your first reading of Max Henry then you are in for a treat, it’s a good place to start. I wish I would have had this first before the rest though.
Wondering about the Fallen Aces President King? You know the guy who appears to still be in limbo as far as “his” woman goes? This is his story and honestly I’m thinking it’s best to forget all that has come before in Max Henry’s previous books that feature King because right now I have a feeling we can’t have a HEA in this two book series. If you’ve read them you will know how King and Elena are now and it’s not all that pretty. This takes you right back to their beginning when King was a lowly prospect and Elena had just arrived from Cuba to care for her sick father.
It’s quite grim in places and touches on a subject that perhaps sensitive readers may find difficult to stomach. The impacts of those few scenes are quite shocking but they are written really well and added a really decent plot line to the whole story in general. The author writes an absolutely deplorable character in Carlos, which we already know given the history we’ve read previously but it’s compounded in this book. I wasn’t immediately taken with Elena, I understood her circumstances but it felt that she was crying for something from king that she knew he couldn’t do for her given what she knows about her husband. Even she lived in fear and couldn’t leave.

WOW, JUST WOW! Max has left me with such a high after finishing 'Unrequited'... I'm at a lose for words. The adrenaline it left me with.... I have been patiently awaiting Kings story, having read little snippets about King whilst reading Max's "Butcher Boys" series I was left wondering about this scary, yet dedicated man. 'Unrequited' is book 1 in Max's new series "Fallen Aces MC"& what a start she gives us.

We get to see how Prospect King becomes the man he is in the "Butcher Boys", the chance meeting with Elena & their instant attraction. Having to put his club first, even when things happening within it aren't how they should be & having to put the women he loves in the back of his mind until he is patched. Meanwhile Elena has been put into a tough situation, getting worse as time slowly crawls between the times she can see King again... Oh how I feel for Elena, she stays strong even under the circumstances she is under....

I can honestly say I was about half way through when all the characters finally clicked in my head, not sure why it took so long, it may have been because King was so young & different. But then we'd only ever seen him as the head President previously, & like I said it was only ever snippets.

Max does what Max does best, dark troubling subjects brought to light, writen so that you can feel the pain, the hurt, the need to fight just by reading the words. From Prologue to the very last word Max left me in AWE yet again, the darkness, sadness, courage, loyalty, brotherhood, love... then the twists, all of this wrapped up into something truly wicked to read. But the story is only half way through for King & Elena, I'll be needing more ASAP.
