About the Author
Before becoming a full-time writer Liz Nugent worked in Irish film, theatre and television. In 2014 her first novel, Unravelling Oliver, was a Number One bestseller and won the Crime Fiction Prize in the 2014 Irish Book Awards. Her second novel, Lying in Wait, went straight to Number One in the Irish bestseller charts, remained there for nearly two months and won her a second IBA. She lives in Dublin with her husband.

One gripe - the cover of this book is awful. "She knew everything about him... but the truth." Oliver's wife knows absolutely nothing about him, so they must have taken that lazy, B movie, line from somewhere else. And "the woman lying on the floor as incentive to buy a book" is just horrible. Shame on the once-mighty house of Penguin.
It opens dramatically, involving a savage assault by Oliver on Alice. He tells the reader in a somewhat self-serving way of what led to the assault and he details the assault itself.
Numerous characters in their lives then relate, from their own perspective, their involvement with the novel's two main protagonists, husband and wife, Oliver and Alice, and this is the key to creating an intriguing tale.
In real life, none of us ever has the complete story, and Liz Nugent cleverly uses that fact to slowly unfold her story in layers - most readers will leap to conclusions early on, only to have those challenged as new characters reveal new aspects to the lives and history of Oliver and Alice's complicated life.
