About the Author

RITA® Award Finalist Michelle Willingham grew up in a military household that took her all over the world, including Thailand, Germany, and England. She wrote her first historical romance at the age of twelve and was delighted to fill up eight pages of a legal pad. Thankfully, most of her early stories have been destroyed and are unavailable for blackmail.

Michelle taught middle school History and English for eleven years before retiring to stay home with her children and write full time. She married a rocket scientist, and they live in southeastern Virginia. When she isn’t writing historical romances, she loves to cook, read, and avoid exercise at all costs. Format: Paperback
Second in a series called 'Secrets in Silk' but it can stand alone.
The story proper opens in 1811 as Paul Fraser, a crofter's son and now an Edinburgh doctor, attends the wedding of Juliette Andrews's sister. The crofter families have been forced off the land by a rich landowner to make room for more profitable sheep, with Napoleonic wars pushing up the price of wool, and the people are camping out in bitter weather as they try to rebuild their lives elsewhere.
Since Juliette's father, an officer off fighting, came into his title, there is an uneasy situation and she tells Paul that he should not be interested in her. Juliette has a secret in her past however, that she was attacked by the rich landowner and she believes that Paul deserves a wife who could give him children as she cannot.
Paul is determined to ruin the landowner but Juliette just wants to live quietly in London now and help her sisters sell silk and satin undergarments to a shop for ladies, to shore up the debt her father inherited.
I always like the details and history in Michelle Willingham's books. However I was surprised that it was not mentioned that the men at balls all wore regimental or navy uniform at this time. Indeed the ladies found it difficult to wear a dress whose colours did not clash with some of the brightly coloured uniforms.

This was a fabulous book. It's Juliette's turn to have her story told in Book Two of Michelle Willingham's "Secrets in Silk" Series. Wowie, what a love story between Juliette and Paul. I do not understand why more authors in this genre don't have the understanding that many readers, including myself, find the hero's willingness to abstain from sexual intimacy until he is joined with his true love, can be one of the most appealing qualities about a man.

Paul Fraser was all man - a true hero who took the time to love and fight the battle for Juliette who had a serious emotional wound in her past. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series. Five Stars for a very romantic book!!

I always do my best to finish a book, but I couldn't even get halfway through this one before I had to give up. The conversations between the hero and heroine were repetitive and dull and the plot was illogical and implausible.
