About the Author

A global wanderer, hopeless romantic, and total cynic with a broken edit button, Deborah writes adult urban fantasy to satisfy her love of smexy romances and tales of chicks who kick ass. She is all about the happily-ever-after, with a huge dose of hilarity along the way. “It takes a bad girl to fight evil. Go Wilde.”

What a breath of fresh air. great story, rapid pace and a wonderful "anti"-heroine. Nava is a hard drinking, irreverent personality, who gets the job done. Some adult content, so maybe not for younger readers, but a good story well told and I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series. Genuinely couldn't put it down.

This was a good start to what I have a feeling will be a brilliant series. All the characters were vivid, different and interesting. Neva was sarcastic, funny, and a disaster which is a great mix for a main character.

Loved this book and didn't put it down until I'd finished it, have already preordered book 2 and cannot wait to see how much trouble Nava can get herself into. Fast paced, humorous and well written, will definitely be buying further books by Deborah Wilde.

When Nava accidentally is indoctrinated into the Brotherhood of David, a secret Jewish demon-hunting organisation after interrupting her twin-Brother Ari’s ceremony, quite literally stealing the job he’s trained his entire life for, she gets thrown in the deep end in more ways than one. As the first woman to ever become a ‘brother’, and to have not received the lifelong training that all brothers received Nava is at a huge disadvantage. Then her boss slash protector slash trainer is Rohan, ex rock star now super stellar demon hunter and hot stuff.

So, I really enjoyed this book, it was a bit of a slow starter for me, I took a while to warm to the story and the characters but once I did I couldn’t put the book down and got through it in record time. I loved that this book was focused around a Jewish secret organisation, I think this may be the first time I’ve read a book in this genre with a Jewish slant (as someone with no religious ties I do enjoy it when books go in different directions like this!)

Nava is a fantastic character, she’s ballsy and sexual. A woman who knows who she is and she’s comfortable with that. I love this woman and that Deborah Wilde wasn’t afraid to create a female character like this. She goes into this all-male organisation and doesn’t let anybody take her down without a fight. I know she’s supposed to be unlikeable and I could see all the reasons why, but those things only warmed her to me more. I like strong characters and Nava is nothing if she isn’t strong.

Ari her brother is a character I’d like to have seen more of, he is dealing with having the thing he’s worked his entire life for taken away, and by his Sister of all people.

Nava Katz is about to answer a calling she didn’t know she’d have. In fact, it’s her twin Ari’s destiny that she rather unexpectedly usurps. Ari has been groomed to take his place in the Brotherhood of David from the day he was born, so when he’s initiation doesn’t go as plan, he’s left more than a little deflated. Ari will need to figure out what he’s going to do now he’s no longer one of the chosen, while Nava is going to have to scramble to get herself up to speed. The biggest issue however is what the Brotherhood is going to do with her, as up until now, the initiates have all been male. As the first female hunter, Nava not only has to overcome prejudices, she also needs to earn her place in the Brotherhood and prove to them that she’s worth keeping around.

Nava is not your typical woman and she’s certainly no role model. She’s a rather feisty female, who is almost completely unapologetic about who she is and what she does. She’s the sort of person I’d love to hang out with, as she’s the kind of person that would make your life interesting. She’s the crazy friend you’d call when you want to raise a little hell and have a good time. Rohan and the team are your typical, alpha male types, who are all a part of the Brotherhood; meaning that they are all blessed with good looks, unique powers and the rather inflated ego that tends to go with that kind of package. It’s definitely fun watching Nava rile the men up without even trying. While Nava might be a bit of a badass in her own very unique way, she’s not without her vulnerabilities. The opening scene of the book, is probably one of my favourites, as Nava makes quite the first impression; her actions, what she’s thinking, the things that concern her, it all draws you in and makes you want to find out what happens next.

Crude, rude and funny. Definitely X-rated. The title certainly does what it says on the tin as Nava is unlikeable from the very beginning - self-obsessed, selfish and absolutely not the definition of heroine. As the story progresses we learn a bit more about why she is the way she is, making it easier to understand her and even sympathise with her. By the end of the story I liked her better but the book worked for me because of the other characters and her relationship with each of them, especially Rohan.
I admit I am not very good at putting into words what I liked about a book and why I liked it so I'm just going to say that I did like it and am looking forward to the next one.
If you sign up on the author's website you can download a free short story "Slay" written from Rohan's point of view.
I received a copy of this book from Instafreebie but this review is my own opinion and is not influenced by the author.
