I had only one day to assess this camera before leaving for a holiday. It does not start immediately like my current Casio Exilim 750 nor will play back more than the last photo taken. I had to leave it at home and will have to do more work with it on my return home from holiday. So disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantanstic small camera 11 Jan. 2014
By James - Published on

I was reviewing cameras to see if I should replace my full-sized DSLR with one of the latest flavors, but found this camera and discovered it has really cool features. (a) built-in time lapse mode. You can program how fast and how long to shoot a time-lapse sequence, and it builds a video sequence from it. (b) high speed (slow motion) video mode. For smaller frame sizes, it will record faster frame rates, so when it plays back at standard rate you get "slow motion video". (c) The "BEST SHOT" modes. Besides helping newbies with concepts such has depth-of-field or fast shutter rates, which you can do with any camera in manual mode, this camera has artistic modes to boost dynamic range, contrast, and colors. Also a mode to make sure that group shots come out good by taking multiple frames and combining the best face shots.

In Summary, this camera has lots of image processing programming going on in the camera at the time of the shoot, so you don't have to do it later. At a relative low cost, I think this is an additional camera many serious photographers would want to have.

Hint to buyers: Since it seems to only ship out of Japan, download the ENGLISH operators manual first, so you can convert the menu's from Japanese to English, then you are ready to go!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Camera - got overwhelmed in looking at point and ... 19 Nov. 2014

Great Camera - got overwhelmed in looking at point and shoot reviews so bought two new batteries for my old Kodak. Then I saw this Casio and the brand name did not impress me as I am a musician and the little Casio keyboards came to mind, I saw other reviews and thought this was the camera for me. Yep it is all and more of what I wanted and Casio has been elevated in my world view. Really enjoying discovering and using all of its many features, far beyond many others similar cameras I looked at. I can take a photo of antelopes over 3/4 mile away and it looks like they are 75 feet away. Only concern is it is not imported to the USA so wonder about parts or repair if needed. Works quite well so far and feels and looks of high quality. Glad I waited to get this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Camera 12 Sept. 2014

This camera is everything I wanted. Clear pictures, an incredible zoom capability and an incredibly fast picture take time. I do not understand why they no longer import to the USA. We have an older Casio that took amazing pics but did not have a big zoom (x3) only. This camera beats anything available here in any point and shoot or big zoom camera. I have bought quite a selection in an effort to find a camera that works for pics of kids on the go both inside and outside in various lights as well as the usual scenic pictures.
The camera was shipped and received in a week with no extra shipping charges.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! 6 Oct. 2014

Great pocketable camera. Every feature you probably would ever need. Takes great photos and the burst mode is amazing. I'm using the BS hdr mode the most, doesn't look like the normal over processed hdr on some cams. The BS night shots also work well. I haven't used all the features yet, but the reach and quality make this a really fun camera. Menu's are easy to navigate. Also the manual settIngs are nice to have on a smaller camera , it's a steal at this price get one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Camera, Especially for the Price! Lots of Features to Learn, Though 18 Jan. 2015
By Gary Stowell - Published on

This camera is jam packed with features and well worth the time to learn most of them. Originally bought the camera for its high speed photography feature but have since explored most of the other features. Quality of still photos is amazingly good. Especially like the built-in HDR image processing. It does almost as well as can be done in post with Photoshop. Anti-shake is effective, especially on long telephoto still shots. Again, some fancy digital image processing produces almost tack sharp images at 18x full telephoto. The camera takes a series of rapid shots and combines them to clarify the image.

Have not done much with the movie functions other than real-time (20-60fps) clips. Focus and exposure tracking are good. Not a lot of focus hunting during pans or zooms. The built-in intervalometer looks like it will do the job for basic time lapse movies up to one hour shoot time. Ironically, I have not yet tried the HS movie mode for which I purchased the camera. Others I've talked to say it is useful up to about 240fps above which point the resolution declines unacceptably and the amount of light needed becomes extreme. Again, this is hear say on my part but I trust the source.

The controls depart in a major way from senior DSLR's. Operating the camera becomes an exercise in selecting from a mind numbing array of presets for every conceivable shooting situation - both still and motion photography. This can be good for non-photographers but no matter what, it forces the user to at least learn a large subset of the presets in order to get maximum good out of the camera. Oh sure, there are totally automatic modes but if that's all you plan on doing, ask yourself why you are buying the camera in the first place. Perhaps the phone camera does all you need.
