4.0 out of 5 stars Great musicianship, better sound quality 13 Dec. 1999
By peterc - Published on
Format: Audio CD
This CD is tight; the musicians are all solid, the bass player is better than anyone Michael's ever jammed with on live recordings, and the arrangements do the originals justice. Still not Strangers, but really a pleasant surprise. I still want a live recording of the UFO shows just prior to this stage in Michael's career, but the upshot on this CD is we get some classic MSG tunes and even one Scorps classic. I can't emphasize how good the sound quality is on this; for a live show it's incredibly clear and punchy. I saw UFO at this venue (The Edge, Palo Alto) earlier and the sound was good but not this stellar. Michael is obviously in control, unburdened by whatever demons he was wrestling w/ at the end of the UFO reunion phase. His band is well-rehearsed and Wayne Findlay on rhythm guitar and keyboards is the perfect Paul Raymond sub. Shane Galass on drums is right on, and Barry Sparks is a virtuoso bass player who shines when allowed the opportunity (Assault Atack, Into the Arena). The two singers do a worthy job of trying to sing the likes of Moggy, Klaus Meine, Gary Barden, and Graham Bonnet.
Turn this one up and see what I mean.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but "Michael Schenker Story Live" is better 29 Nov. 2003
By Chris Jordan - Published on
Format: Audio CD
I haven't heard the new songs from the Unforgiven LP, but the other songs are better on Michael Schenker Story Live because vocalist Leif Sundin and Van Landing appear. The guy on this one cannot get the high notes and that is why several songs from "Written in the Sand" (a great album) are not included on this disc. This fellow sounds a bit like Phil Mogg, but is really not as good. He may be good for the brand new stuff, I don't know. I haven't heard it and the only thing I heard was that the new unforgiven studio cd is not that good. Get Schenker Story Live (even if you are sick of the old UFO tracks over and over again) for the new tunes off of Written in the Sand alone; you will not be disappointed. "Love Never Dies" and "Coming back to Life" are awesome guitar songs and also have well written lyrics. They almost sound better live than on the original studio version.

5.0 out of 5 stars great songs, great band, great singers, & of course MICHAEL 16 Oct. 1999

I did not expect this to be as good as it is. This band is nocover band doing michaels hits. They mean business. Michael must be very choosy with his players. I have never heard a tighter skilled rhythm section,,wow, this is the real deal. MSG is real. Kieth Slack reminds me of Ray Gillan and one of the Bramhellbrothers.ark Angels..I wasn't a UFO fan But this is great,, adn then The singer from Unforgiven comes out,,wow, now it's serious ,,down to guts..Fat city rocks, wayne findlay,,as good or better than Chapman,,( chapman right., I LOVE this record.OH
The acoustic numbers, the drummer is playing the intricate notes and chords,,This drummer Gaalas,,is like a metronome. The Bass and drum solo is so good. I know a little about music,, This is a work of art...I'm sure demanded by the master Michael Schenker,, Who I have never heard sound so intelligent and musical in his solos...Thank you guys if you are reading this...Stay together I think this is magic

4.0 out of 5 stars Unforgiven World Tour 14 Jan. 2000

Format: Audio CD
This is a recording of a great performance at The Edge in Palo Alto, California. All the instruments sound great, but for some reason, Mike Varney produces Michael's guitar with the high end cut; so it's a little muddy but not real bad. They should have had Ron Nevison produce this. In any case, the playing is fantastic; Michael's never had a better band. It's not just technically good, the album has a great vibe. Both singers are awesome (the one on the Unforgiven Album, and a new one who sounds a lot like Phil Mogg). The MSG songs sound great; the UFO songs sound great. They do an incredible version of the Scorpions' "Another Piece of Meat". If you like UFO/MSG, you will dig this album.

1.0 out of 5 stars i bought this with a gift certificate.... 24 Oct. 1999

Format: Audio CD
i was skeptical about buying this because it's like the fifth or sixth live album put out by michael schenker not including the ufo live recordings. since it included many songs i never heard live before i figured what the heck.the musicianship was very good but the lead singer on most of the songs is so generic that he made most of these classics sound absolutely bland! the guest singer who sang"assault attack","on and on", and"another piece of meat" saved the album. otherwise this is a waste of time.i think "assault attack" was the last classic album that schenker put out on his own and his only hope now is to rejoin ufo.if you're into generic fast guitar playing (vai, satriani, etc.) i would suggest you buy this album, but if you like hard driving songs with balls check out "one night at budokan" by msg or "strangers in the night" by ufo.
