4.0 out of 5 stars Strong, believable and emotional 4 Oct. 2014

Eve Brandt is a single mother of a teenager. She had Noah at a very young age. Her father, a minister, shamed her into running and leaving to live with her aunt until the child was born. Eve enjoys her simple life with Noah. Noah has become distant and angry at life and acting up in school. She tries to talk with Noah, but he has closed down from her. She doesn't want to become like her father who was demanding, overbearing and totally had no time for her when she was a child. Billy comes into their lives when he comes to do some house improvements. Billy is interested in Eve from day one. Eve has a tendency to run from anything that is upsetting or unsettling, so she continues to push Billy away. Then out of nowhere, Noah's real father, Ty, comes into the picture and Noah decides he want to spend time with his grandfather and biological father. Eve's quiet live has become chaotic. Although this may be marked as a romance story, it is more than that. It's a very strong, emotional book and has a great story line. It share with us the life of a single mother, a dysfunctional family past and tense relationships. It's not the usual, boy meets girl and they live happily ever after. It's a very real life story and believable.
4.0 out of 5 stars Quick, pleasant read. 29 July 2014

Grabbed this book one day when it was free and I did enjoy it. Sometimes the main character, Eve, was a bit annoying and her love interest (Billy) can come across a little too perfect, but the thing that felt real and true was the relationships between the different characters: Eve's complex relationships with her father and her son; the desperate longing for her teenager to have a male influence in his life. These relationships make the book worth reading. The flashbacks are not intrusive and shed just enough light at a time to make you want to keep going.
3.0 out of 5 stars OK but... 19 July 2014

I read the first 3 chapters of this story and gave up.

It's not a 'bad' book but it didn't compel me to read more at that point.

Rather predictable and almost from the start, I could see where the story was headed.

Eve is a very messed up 30 year old woman. An unwed mother at 16, father a widowed pastor from whom she is estranged, when she meets the hero. How this complicated woman makes her life work is great reading.
3.0 out of 5 stars An engaging ride to self acceptance 7 Aug. 2014

Who doesn't love a really messed up heroine? The psychological struggles of this character as she grapples to come to terms with her perception of her painful past is captivating and suspenseful.
