Blair doesn't come across as a nice person. Actually she's a self-confessed super-bitch. She likes one off sex to take the edge off and this particular night, the night she meets super hot and tattoed West, ends in a different way to her normal slam-bam-thank-you-sir kind of nights.
West is on the look out for a connection. That's it. Call it sex, call it chemistry but when he meets Blair in that seedy bar he feels it immediately. Note: for those of you who hate insta-love then you'll hate this. Both parties think the other is hot and f***able. So they do. Blair does a runner straight after, only to see him on stage the following night. He chases her out of the venue then gets her to commit to spending the week with him. It doesn't happen quite so quickly as that but, you get the idea.
The story is short and has plenty of scope. There aren't that many characters in the story, and the rock star life described is very stereotypical of New Adult rock star stories. Personally, in real life, I don't think these two would have a chance at making it. But, hey, this isn't real life, is it?
I liked West, I didn't like Blair too much. I felt the connection sure enough, but I didn't get down into the depths of the characters. Yes, we're told why Blair is the way she is, and we're told why West feels alone. Apart from a few conversations between them which always ended abruptly (if not rudely) it was difficult to get into their minds.
Anyway, a good quick read, and yes, there are lots of hot scenes. There is also sequel :)
I find Ms Cross can actually fit a lot of story and character into even a short book. This book was no exception. Extremely well written and totally hot, hot hot.
I enjoyed reading about a feisty girl. She wasn’t a pushover. She wasn’t wanting hearts and flowers and romance. All she wanted was a convenient bunk up when she wanted it. At times she may have come across as a little too much but when you delve deeper into her past, you see exactly why she is the way she is.
Typical hot alpha male except this time, he’s up against quite an opponent!!
Loved this, looking forward to the next part.
I actually read all three back to back so I'm reviewing as a whole, although I have split my reviews to each serial.
This first book is the introduction to Blair and West and covers how they meet. Blair is a cracking female character and is forthright and ballsy, but we're given a glimpses into the damaged girl underneath and I couldn't wait to find out more about her. Similarly, on first glance West is the mysterious Rock Star but I loved how he knew he wanted Blair and wasn't afraid to go after her, although it is clear that there are far more layers to West than at first meets the eye.
This first episode is heavy on the gritty sex and while I love a steamy scene, I did find myself looking for more from the characters than just the sex and I was hoping to find more of an emotional connection -Now this is where reading the trilogy back to back comes in tricky when reviewing because come the end you realise that this 1st serial was perfect in order to see the development of the characters individually and together as their story continues.
A quick fast paced story that was a good start to a series.
If I had read this without reading the next books then I would likely have given this 3.5 stars but I really enjoyed the series as whole and would give the series 4 stars.
I was gifted a copy of this book by Book Enthusiast Promotions in exchange for an honest review.
Unexpected is a short sharp novel, but it is punchy enough that it will have you scouring the internet to find out when book 2 is being released.
I get that many will be thinking, angst riddled girl meets hot rock star but this is not your average read. Because Blair and West are not your average couple.
Blair has no intension of hooking up on a more than casual basis with anyone anymore but West has been there and done that and just about anyone that put themselves in his way and he is ready for something different, he is ready to find his woman and to keep her.
So poles apart can this pair find some middle ground, enough to give them a chance?
When they meet West is determined not to look a gift horse in the mouth, Blair makes it clear that one night is all he gets but convinced that one night with him is all it will take to show her the error of her ways, he sets about his mission - show this woman that he is what she needs.
I liked West, he was trying. He was determined to put himself right and to stay that way. His future depended on what he did now and he was willing to lay himself out there for Blair, something about her called to him and he was not prepared to walk away. Blair on the other hand will test your patience… she did mine! I could have throttled her on a number of occasions – she was just so pig-headed.
Could he change her mind, would she give in and give him the week he wanted?
As hot as they were together, the connection between them was practically instant but far from straight forward. Just like life itself, you make a series of judgement calls and deal with the results before moving on to the next one. I just hope that the decisions that they make come to fruition in book 2.
