It follows the life of Theo, a software developer in his 40’s, who lives a simple life in London, England. Theo slowly starts to realise that he has the potential to do much more with his computer skills and puts together a plan to see just how much he can really achieve, even at the expense of others.
The story is well constructed and it is clear that each character has a distinct background and purpose; even some of the smaller characters, who we may not learn much about, are written in a way that allows you to understand and connect to them. The clever writing and relatable characters allows the reader to become thoroughly invested in the story.
There are some clever twists and cliffhangers throughout the book and most chapters ended in a way that left me wanting more. The ending was quite a surprise and was very well executed, even leaving it open to continue on the story in the future if the writer wishes.
One of my favourite elements of the book has to be the clever use of computer language with a hint of comedy to communicate Theo’s thought processes. It is clear that the writer has the knowledge to accurately utilise this language and is able to do so without overcomplicating it for the reader, which is not an easy thing to do.
