This very readable study sets out a structured, in-depth understanding of what’s going on inside the body, from a cellular level outwards; what to expect and what not to expect, broken down thoughtfully by activity, function and level of severity.
CH Saunders has clearly done her research, and this book provides an invaluable go-to for those seeking a summary of the very latest scientific learnings and theories on ME.
It also includes an exhaustive list of sources of information and help – covered from every possible angle, from old-school to new-age (whatever works for you is worth it) - and an invaluable section on coping strategies.
Finally, and of equal importance, it lays out a clear, candid and well-defined roadmap for carers and friends – again thoughtfully structured – offering advice and suggestions on how to help, whether you’re the full-time rock, the stand-by oak or you just pop up to help when you can. With characteristic candor, CH Saunders also clearly lists the kind of “help” that really isn’t wanted – as the last thing ME sufferers need is for someone to come in and drain their limited energy pools. If you’re not putting energy in, you’re better off staying away.
This is a book EVERYONE should read – not just those who come into contact with ME. It not only provides valuable insights into this specific condition, but such is its breadth, it will also promote a wider compassion for sufferers and their carers of other maladies such as cancer and diabetes and even old age. It will help you with your understanding of how to deal with anyone who is struggling and those who support them.
Buy it, read it, and look at the world differently.
