This book is a must for anyone in the process of training to be a Forest School Practitioner. The book gives the reader a good overview of the Danish Forest School approach and how this has influenced Forest School teaching in the UK. It summarizes the main theories at the heart of Forest School teaching and the benefits offered to children involved in the process.
I wish this book had been available when I was writing my Forest School Portfolio!:
The book is divided into 6 chapters: 1)The context 2)Theory and practice 3)The Danish pedagogue 4)The learning environment 5)Organisation of Danish Early Years setting 6) The future of the Danish forest school approach
The book poses valuable questions that invite you to scrutinize and reflect upon your Forest School practice.
The only negative is that is quite a pricey book considering it is 100 pages long and the images are in black and white
Anyone working in the Early Years should buy this book, it is an excellent comparsion and insight to the ethos and practical aspects of the childcare appraoch in Denmark. Brilliant I have learnt much from this read and will certainly be sharing it with my team and hope to implement some of the excellent outdoor approaches, or go and work in Denmark !!!
