Product Description

Synopsis

"Chaos Magic" is an introductory book. It is written for a widespread audience, ranging from the merely curious to the serious student of magic who wishes to learn about this area. The book is designed to be as appropriate to the shelves of a traditional bookshop as much as to specialised occult suppliers.

From the Author

Understanding Chaos Magic has just been re-released in an updated second edition in English, soon to be followed by a German edition and there is talk of translations to Polish and Japanese. I am understandably pleased to see chaos magic growing and spreading across the world with all the momentum that the Butterfly could muster.

It's about time someone wrote a book on chaos magic that explains what it is, where it came from, and what it's all about. This is the book, and I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.

So you've read stuff by Pete Carroll, Phil Hine, Dave Lee, Charles Brewster and/or Ray Sherwin, but where did all this Chaos stuff come from? This book provides the answers in an easy to read and definitive history, including photos and maps of Austin Spares old basement appartement...
...well, the patch of grass over which it is reputed to be in any case! Your humble reviewer has used the maps to go and find the patch of grass for himself, now transformed into some peoples front gardens, and can confirm it is a pilgrimage well worth making.

This book gives the basic information that is assumed in most other books on the same subject. An easy to read style simplifies that which seems complicated, and makes a good starting point for anyone interested in learning about what chaos magic is and is all about.

5.0 out of 5 stars A damn good history and all-round intro to the subject. 11 Feb. 2001
By Count Anton - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This book is the first (and my knowledge only) book to deal with the history and background of the phenomenon known as Chaos Magic. Fairly short and easy to read, this book gives a history of Spare and the IOT. I really enjoyed using the maps of Spares old residence to make a 'Chaos Pilgrimage' when I visited London, and the background of Chaos Science, fractals and strange attractors are explained in a simple easy to understand manner. I highly recommend that anyone curious about what Chaos Magic might and might not be, take a look at this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introductory book 23 Feb. 2003
By Psyche - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This is an excellent introductary book on chaos magick. It clearly outlines the history, terminology and philosophies and commonatlities found among chaotes.
It explains and dispells many assumptions often made about chaos magick which I found interesting, such as how it is sometimes percieved as being of the 'left hand path'.
If you're new to chaos magick, or curious to know more, this is the book to pick up. If you're more experienced, it likely won't have anything new to offer, but may be worth the read to authoritatively recommend it to people who ask you 'What is chaos magick?'

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Information 27 Feb. 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I found this book to be invaluable as a background to what chaos magic is and where it comes from. I also notice that Pete Carroll himself gave it a good review in Chaos International. I hope to see more from this author on chaos magic, as her writing style is straight forward and easy to read, and I got more actual information from this slim volume than from many other more cryptic magick books with loads of filler.

2.0 out of 5 stars Understanding Chaos Magic 3 July 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I found the book to be a bit slim for the price. But, I did find the chaos science information written in plain languge useful and informative. The maps detailing the home neighborhood of AOS were interesting, as were the author's personal antecdotes on her experiences with magic. I'd personally like to hear from more female Choas Magicians! But, if the reader is looking for an excellent book on Chaos magic, read anything by Phil Hine.

4.0 out of 5 stars A basic background history 16 April 2012
By Aldeveron - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I enjoyed reading this little book. It gives the reader some insight into the concepts associated with 'chaos magic' and the innovative people who coined the term and developed and promoted the ideas, starting with Mr Spare in 1920s London, and the folks in Deptford, in the 1970s.
