educational, easy to put up on ceiling as it's very lightweight, plus it should last as it's out of reach! One big minus - it is very noisy when the planets are in motion so you wouldn't want to leave it on overnight!

I bought this for my 5 year old son who is fascinated with planets. He loves it. The motor is too loud to leave on as a night light but other than that a big success.

I came across this product while looking for potential christmas presents for my family and realised that as a kid I would have loved this in my room as a 6-60 year old (I am now 55)Once purchased by my wife for my birthday I went on yo buy Uncle Miltons moon in my room and a mobile of satelites orbiting earth and I would like others, unfortunately young kids now only seem to like this kind of thing shown on computer I hope I am mistaken I find it relaxing to watch before going to sleep when on nights,I may be viewed as not growing up but its a case of now or never.

I will admit that once up on the ceiling it looks lovely so long as you've got the lights on in the room. The instructions recommend dimming the lights to see it at it's best. However, the light from the "sun" isn't very strong and if you dim all the other lights in the room then you can't see the planets at all.

My son is enjoying using the remote control at the minute but I can see him becoming quite bored with it soon.

Update after use for a year - broken and can't fix it, tried new batteries in both the unit and the remote and nothing. Really not worth the money, my children get much more enjoyment from their glow in the dark sticker stars and planets.

This is great not only for kids but also for adults.Easy to install(you only have to make two holes on your ceiling).Needs batteries for the remote control and the "sun light".Attention! This is not a light for your room.It is a night-light.Just make sure that the remote control is not in your kid's hands all the time because you gonna have to change batteries pretty often.Push the remote's button once and you switch the light on.Push it once more and you have rotation of the planets!Push it again and you switch everything off.Kids will love it!Price is also good for what you get.If you like it buy it.You won't be dissapointed.Really cool product!

This item is very easy to put together and also mount to the ceiling. The 'sun' light is not bright enough to act as a replacement for any night lights you use, but it does serve its purpose. The rotation of the planets and the sun light are both controlled from the remote which also has a small torch light, its great fun watching our son shining the torch on the planets as they rotate at bed time. The only down side is the rotation motor is a bit loud; other than that its a great gift.

Noisey, but this is NOT advertised as a night light, is battery opperated and therefore NOT to be left on overnight.

Educational? YES!

My nearly 2 year old daughter LOVES this! The first time she used it we spend about 40 mins saying "wow" and "planets" a lot with big grins!

But we did bulit her up to the idea of planets first with a sticker set (amazon) and some inflatable planets (amazon).

So, when she was introduced to this toy, planets and their names were already familiar to her.

She LOVES shouting "planets" "revolve" while pressing the remote control.

Age two, this is not the toy for one so young to learn the names of the planets (being small and on the move), ... but an older child would easily do so.

The great thing is that she now has somehting in 3d with the sun at the center and the planets revolving around the sun in order of appearance. And, we've got "planets" and "solar system" out of her, too.

Learning Resources Inflatable Solar System Set.

Possibly the best thing I have ever bought. Being a physicist its not easy to inspire a four year old child into such things, so I bought this for her. But we both lie on the bed together looking up mesmerised by it, aimlesly talking about life, the universe and everything. Day and night, seasons, how it's her birthday each time the little earth returns to the same place it was when she was born, the moon landings, etc etc etc. All the stuff she'd have fallen to sleep when I tried to talk about it before I got this.

I saw someone mention it's not an accurate model. If it were an accurate scale model, in order for the earth to be the size of a ping-pong ball, the sun would have to be 4 meters in diameter.
