Review

Witty, pacey and perfectly pitched for early readers your child won't have seen anything like this before. --Junior

The jovial diary entries of Pig, and the sheer exuberance of both the telling and the imagination involved in the plot are on every page and are a sheer delight. I was not joking when I said that adults will take to this. --The Bookbag

Children and adults alike will be delighted by this brilliantly silly and surreal story --Booktrust

About the Author

Growing up on a farm in Devon, Emer's first ambition was to be a vet. But her ambition was cruelly dashed upon the jagged rocks of career failure by her inability to get a grade of any sort at A-Level biology.
Emer is a keen runner, an over-enthusiastic kick-boxer, and a terible speller.

This is a simple and entertaining read, perfect for children of about six or seven and up. The mixture of simple, short chunks of text, with a strong graphic content and plenty of white space on the page means that it is an ideal chapter or transitional book for newly confident readers, ready to move away from picture books but not yet ready for denser, more text driven novels.

The book is written by Pig, the main character, who finds a diary and a pen in the farmer's rubbish, and sets about immortalizing himself in its pages. Pig thinks life is amazing. The farmer loves him, and shows his love by over feeding Pig at every opportunity .Pig erroneously believes that his greatest problem in life is the evil chickens who he shares the farm yard with, and the simplest way of dealing with them is to fart in their general direction.

All is well until one day Pig finds out the farmer's plan for Pig, and the chickens recruit him as at test pilot for their inaugural flight into space as his only reliable means of escaping from the farmer's clutches.

This is very silly, and very funny and very easy to read. I read it in an hour. My ten year old daughter read it in a day and my seven year old son is half way through it and enjoying it immensely.

This book is an attractive, chunky little hardback, just the right size for small hands and everything about it will appeal to children from approximately 7+ (both my 9 and my 7 year old enjoyed it very much). As the title suggests, it is written in the form of a diary by Pig. Pig shares the farmyard with his friend Duck, the Evil Chickens and Cow. As far as Pig is aware, their greatest enemy is Fox, who made Duck sad by eating his entire family. Pig thinks that the Farmer loves him, as he feeds him so much and gives great back scratches, but then Duck informs him of his true intentions... This is a wonderfully funny book, with lots of illustrations and a great storyline, as Duck helps Pig try to escape from the Farmer's clutches. Their plan involves the Evil Chickens and a secret plot to blast off into space. Along the way there are lots of great adventures and many laughs. This book would be equally enjoyed by both boys and girls and I imagine that children of quite a wide age range would enjoy it - from seven, right up until early teens.

This book is one of those that can be read by children and adults alike and each will get something different from it, but both will end up laughing until tears run from their eyes!

I love the style of the book - it looks like a notebook, with doodles on the cover and a handwritten text story, accompanied by fantastic pencil sketch illustrations.

The book would be suitable for children who are gaining confidence in reading alone but still like to have pictures breaking up big chunks of text. However, younger children will also enjoy listening to others reading them the story. It is definitely a book to share with others, otherwise they will keep asking why you are giggling out loud constantly throughout the book!

This is the ideal gift to give to a child, however I am sure it won't be long until the rest of the family will soon be reading it too!!

Quite fun Little book about the exploits of a Little pig on a farm. Pig has found an old diary and a pen and decides to keep a record of his life. He is the only pig on the farm and is bullied by the chickens. Fortunately he has his friend duck and the farmer. One day he discovers to his horror that the farmer plans to eat him. Fortunately the chickens have a Means of escape; a trocket powered by pigs own Waste. Pig agrees to become a pigonaut to save his bacon, but Things do not go quite as planned. A hilarious story which should appeal to most kids. Good value for money. My godson loved it.

I bought this originally as a Christmas present for the granddaughter of a friend of mine in the USA. Thanks to the super efficient Royal
Mail the parcel containing it and other items sent by airmail on 16 Nov 2013 arrived on 10 Jan 2014. So what will happen after full privatisation ?? The mind boggles !!! The book itself was everything I thought it would be and was very rude (in a non offensive way) which had my friend and her granddaughter in stitches. I would recommend this to any family.

Pig discovers an blank notebook and pen, so decides to keep a diary - obviously.

Not just for children, but for any one young of all ages, this should prove most entertaining and great fun. But if you are worried about the atrocious grammar and open references to flatulence and the like you might decide that you need to protect your child from this wicked little book; however that would be a great shame for it is such rebelliousness that children delight in (and I am sure that such wrongs simply highlight the difference between what is correct and acceptable and what is just naughty but fun in the right context).

Well presented with occasional little sketches and the odd blot or two of ink, you should not deprive your child, or yourself, from this little delight.
