Umbilical World is David Firth’s feature length retrospective assemblage: 13 years worth of animated madness, stitched together to form a single stream of nightmare consciousness. With a wealth of unseen material as well as familiar classics and remastered, rejigged, reanimated nuggets. This really is the ultimate Firth feature from Salad Fingers to Spoilsbury Toast Boy, from Sock to Health Reminder. Produced, Directed, Written, Animated and Voiced by David Firt. David Firth is a British animator, musician and writer best known for creating dark, comedic, bizarre shorts. He’s been disturbing the internet since the early 2000s and scored a viral hit with the Salad Fingers series.

The DVD itself isn't just a simple compilation of Firth's work, as the cartoons have all been fused and condensed into one long, feature-length nightmare, and it is quite surprising just how well all of these standalone films gel together. The films also look and sound great on a proper TV set as opposed to the usual laptop monitors and mobile phone screens that most fans had become used to. The DVD also includes audio commentaries from Firth (which i cannot wait to hear) and his recent short-film 'Cream'. There's also a short documentary by Firth where he discusses how he got started as an animator.
I really hope that 'Umbilical World' is the first of many David Firth DVD releases as I think that he is the most important artist of his generation, if not the century! So do yourself (and Mr. Firth) the great honor and buy this DVD!
