Had this delivered only a couple of weeks ago and used 6 times. From the very first time of using this it had a terrible loud squeeking noise and I have noticed today that one of the pedals has come away from the main stand, it is all cracked (see photos) I am now convinced that I have received an already returned faulty unit, either that or the general quality is terrible. Do not buy these are a complete waste of money and I want a full refund on this!

This review is not being written immediately after the purchase of the item, but just over one year from purchase thus making this review an overall assessment of the life of the stepper and not an initial impression as may be the case with other reviews here.

From purchase the main flaw in the design of this stepper has been the adjustable tension, during a workout, the dial which adjusts tension loosens and it decreases to the point where exercise levels significantly suffer. The other flaw in the design being in the way the ropes attach to the stepper itself, as you use them to train there is a natural amount of friction which loosens the fasteners resulting in them flying off and potentially losing balance, there is also the possibility of the metal end striking something in the room.

The overall build quality of the stepper is what brought it to the end of its life. There are two metal pieces at the front which hang down holding the braided metal rope which provides tension to the apparatus. The metal is of such cheap construction that it tore making the stepper unusable.

If you look on Amazon you will see designs which differ from this model, I would suggest looking at those alternatives first.

Hope this helps.

Have used this stepper multiple times now, the display is clear and easy to see, I generally use it in scan mode so it swaps between how many steps stepped, calories burned and time spent. I find the elastic bands fine - they haven't pinged off at all and to be honest I can't see how they could as long as they have been attached properly. They are a little long for me (5'4") so aren't hugely tight, so certainly won't give me big muscles but will nicely tone my arms.
Only slight criticsm is that the step depth isn't huge - but this isn't a major problem. I tend to use the stepper when I don't have time for a run, 15 minutes burns around 150 calories and doesn't me get sweaty - so I can use it without needing a full shower. Its operation is FAR quieter than a previous model I owned - so overall happy with the product.

I bought this before the end of July 2014. It broke this morning- 19th September 2014. Very poor quality. How can metal break? Or maybe it isn't metal! I am extremely disappointed and hope the vendor will contact me directly and suggest how I can get my money back.

The display broke after a few days but I wasn't really bothered. Then the cable underneath became worn and spit out particles onto my carpet which left black stains. ( I had the item on a piece of Tarpaulin but it spat out the particles) Amazon replaced it and advised me to contact the manufacturer, after days and days of no response they refused to accept the problems and said they would not help any further.

They asked for several photgraphs which I supplied, asked me numerous questions over and over and then decided they would not help.

very very unhelpful and did not care at all,

I would never recommend buying ANYTHING from this company

Ok, well this is a tale of two halves. This is a great product, but it has its flaws. That said, guys it's £40, at least 2 maybe 3 margins are built into that cost, it's not going to be the quality of a prestige car.
It goes up and down, it does I guess what it says it should do, but yes, it leaks grease, the pistons aren't the best quality, as they get hot through use, the grease softens and leaks from poor quality seals, stick it in an old towel it's fine, just deal with it or join David Lloyd.

Occasionally the steel rope pulley jumps it's groove, it's a pain in the backside to put it back, but it does go. Just don't operate it with both pedals on same plane and it will be fine.

As a plus point, and I'm not joking here, my girlfriend uses it daily, every day for at least 1 hour ! and has done for a year, we worked out its done around 4million steps, yep, that's correct, 4 million.

It is what it is, but is it worth £40, absolutely, go for it, just don't be so hard in something that's not actually designed for what we've put it through. After 4 million steps, today it gave up the fight and she broke the pulley tensioner. It sheared clean off.

Will I complain, nope, it's done more than it was designed for.

Good product, don't be too hard on it for what it is :-)

Bought a swing stepper years ago off the telly which wasn't brilliant but the results after using it were. So I couldnt complain about the shoddyness of the whole thing if it did the job for the time I had it. After having another child and needing to lose and tone up the baby weight for a second time I bought this mini stepper. I couldn't find another swing stepper that compared so I went for the best reviewed etc. Seemed to be more or less what I wanted. Now I have tried the damn thing...
It's small enough to shove under a bed or sofa that has a good gap between the floor and the underside of the item of furniture. It's compact as far as gym equipment goes but it's size effects it's usefulness for what it was originally intended. The stepper simulates taking steps with out the hassle of leaving your home or using a stair case. The depth of each step however is very shallow and gives a very abnormal result. This strains my ankles as I continuously make these tiny repetitive movements. Despite each step being shallow each foot plate will impact the supporting bar beneath.
After 15 minutes I don't feel like I've had anything of a work out at all but my ankles are killing me. My ankles aren't the part of me that needs the work out. I have had a much better workout from a dvd in ten minutes than using this machine.
Maybe for a quite small or light individual who is housebound and still has strong leg muscles and ankles this might be okay. Any one else I wouldn't recommend it. I will be sending back and possibly getting an actual step instead.
