However, I have to say that this has been the most helpful to me so far as it has addressed an area that I have neglected over the years by never having the time to do what seems like the boring groundwork. The exercises are brilliant at improving both left hand dexterity, speed and strength and right hand picking and co-ordination. This is aided by the the real bonus here which are the videos that accompany each exercise and are just a click away.
The improvement to my left hand finger independence has been impressive an my little finger is no longer just a passenger when playing.
Before I started this book I was pretty much locked into a specific approach to using the pick and right hand when playing. This book has made me look very hard at different approaches to right hand technique now and I now have a more varied approach to attacking the strings than I had before.
The exercises are not just aimed at improving left and right hand technique; they are also musical too as they cover different intervals too to train your ear. Two exercises in one!
The improvement to my playing is very satisfying and I recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve these aspects of their playing. Like all learning, you only get out what you put in but at least you have a good and thorough guide.
The book is broken down into a collection of exercises from basic alternate picking right through to in depth scale intervals, arpeggios & triads etc, these are all demonstrated on video, which is a strong selling point. You won't become a guitar virtuoso overnight just by reading this book, you need to actually practise the exercises thoroughly & you will see incredible results given time. The exercises are all useful as well, you won't be going over mindless scales that you can't remember or never use.
The economy picking section is worth it's price alone, I actually already discovered this recently elsewhere, but I'm still finding the results in my playing improving using the exercises in this book.
I also have Joe's Theory Book and find that a great help.
