I will keep this short and to the point. A great read and a fantastic introduction to Marvel's greatest hero.

I really like the recon idea and placing PP into the 21st century with slight alterations on the whole Spider Man myth.

I won't spoil the story, but it is on scratching the surface and you will want to read more.

The Ultimate Marvel universe was created to let younger readers into the world of Marvel. It recreates the story of Spider-man without destroying the roots of the superhero. It is different enough to the original for older readers to enjoy it but is very good for people who want to jump onto the band wagon that is Marvel.

The Story starts as you would imagine with Peter Parker being a bit of a loveable geek who gets bullied and then bit by a genetically enhanced spider. That's the bit we all know but in this version there are a few differences. For a start he is friends with Mary Jane Watson form the beginning and Harry Osborne seems to be someone who takes advantage of Peter's brains rather than being a real friend.

The 'bad guys' in this are not really new, but have been slightly redesigned. The Goblin is no longer a glider riding maniac but rather a Hulk esque character that can throw fire balls, I know that this doesn't sound very good but it actually works really well.

The story line is strong and shows Peter's struggle with the death of his uncle and balancing his social life with being Spider-man. The bold colours are striking and really bring out the characters. It is all new age colouring and looks gorgeous.
