"Another gem from Diane Phillips . . . lip-smacking, finger-licking recipes!"

About the Author

Diane Phillips is an esteemed culinary educator, James Beard Award - nominated cookbook author, product spokesperson, and consultant to the food industry. Fondly known as The Diva of Do - Ahead, she has taught her tremendously popular do - ahead entertaining classes for more than 15 years in cooking schools nationwide, selling out in markets from the Midwest to the Bay Area. The first of her entertaining classes, Do - Ahead Thanksgiving, was covered by the Associated Press in 2003. Phillips imparts her imaginative, timesaving cooking techniques and her keen sense of aesthetic cuisine at prestigious cooking schools throughout the country such as Draeger's, Sur La Table, Ramekins, and Viking Culinary Centers. She teaches classes for Christmas, Easter, picnics, tailgates, bridal shower luncheons, brunch, and other kinds of entertaining. She attended Le Cordon Bleu and has been a spokesperson Turning Leaf Vineyards, Lipton Recipe Secrets, Pepperidge Farms, and Cabot Creamery, and has appeared on numerous radio and television programs. She is the author of several cookbooks, and lives in San Diego, California.

Anyone acquainted with the cookery books of Elizabeth David or Claudia Roden will be dismayed by this book. It claims to provide 300 recipes: in reality the number of genuinely different recipes is much smaller, as many are merely slight variations on a theme. That might perhaps be forgivable but for the style of writing. No noun is without its adjective, and no verb without its adverb. The style of writing is unrelentingly folksy, and, over 360 pages, becomes wearisome. All this is not because the author and publisher are American, but because no editor worth the name has taken out two-thirds of the verbiage. Buy only to be irritated, not informed.

This book is a collection of recipes and ideas using those little counter-top rotisserie ovens, and not for an ordinary cooker with a rotisserie attachment. As such, it is fine for ideas using whole joints, but a set of kebabs using 6 separate skewers, for example, ain't gonna work!
It is also American, and therefore printed on newspaper with not-very-good illustrations - it looks like a book one might have bought during the sixties! Also, being American, it measures in "cups" and ounces, and uses terms for some ingredients that aren't always immediately recognisable, and some ingredients that are not readily available in UK.
That said, it does contain an awful lot of ideas which could be used in a conventional oven, so if you are keen to have a book of rotisserie recipes, then this isn't bad. Buy with caution!

this must be the worst cookbook that i have ever read.

the author must have access to a photocopying machine as every recipe is a word for word copy of the previous recipie.

the equiptment described is not availible to the majoriy of rottiserie owners
