This edition conveniently came out just before my trip to Ukraine. I was only there (in Lviv) for three days but during that time I found the guide extremely useful, especially for its notes on getting around the city, local knowledge etc. I also used it to choose a hotel and restaurants to eat in, and generally I agreed with the author's reviews, although the maps for finding them could have perhaps been a bit more detailed!
I travelled for academic purposes, to investigate the city's Jewish history and the guide was also impressively informative for this. At the back there are some basic Russian and Ukranian phrases, though I'd suggest buying a separate language guide.
Overall, highly commendable.

I rarely write reviews on Amazon but when I purchased this book expecting it to be up to date, I got a shock when I received it.

This book includes details on Malev Hungarian Airlines which went bankrupt nearly 2 years ago and is still included in the book, also the same for what used to be the official airline of Ukraine.

Overall it doesn't seem to have been updated and I'm extremely dissapointed as Bradt guides are usually pretty good in terms of details.

Won't be buying again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great guide 1 Feb. 2014
By GaryShawn - Published on Amazon.com

Visited the Ukraine in November 2014 and bought this book a week before I left
on my trip. It was very useful and I hope to use it again when I return. There is not much out
there on Ukraine tourism but there should be.
This author writes in a very comprehensive and interesting way. You don't feel your reading
a guidebook from 20 different contributing authors. The book feels like it was written by someone
who knows the country and has enjoyed visiting. The book also feels like the author wants you to
enjoy it as much as he does.
5.0 out of 5 stars The best (and only) 23 Mar. 2016

The only travel book on the Ukraine is the Bradt. They aren't my favorites but I replaced a 3rd edition with it. Some glaring errors like a town described as 70 km W of Liev is actually 70 km East. Oh well.

This is relatively thorough guide, but it could use a few more visuals and photos. Some of the sections are a bit out of date and could use some updating to include newer hotels, restaurants, etc., but overall, the guide is thoughtfully done and includes important information about the history of Ukraine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ukraine and the new Cold War 29 Aug. 2015
By Russell R. Miller - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I found this book on Ukraine very interesting. For a more contemporary fictionalized view I also enjoyed the new spy novel "Death of a Spymaster" that is set in Kiev at the beginning of the current conflict with Russia.
