I was amazed how quickly you get used to using it. The 8 hot keys are a must, and can be set to what ever hot key combo your software requires.
If you want to start drawing on yr computer you need one of these.
The working area is excellent with a 6 x 10 inches sensor pad and the feel of the pen is comfortable in my hand, with a rubber gripper around the full circumference of the pen and runs 44mm from the widest point down towards the battery housing. There's also a a two-way button that corresponds to your mouse buttons, that's set within the rubber gripper. I reckon the pen could be improved a little by streamlining the area around where you grip it with the fingers and thumb. The only reason I mention this is because my 14 year old daughter who is very petite and has hands half the size of mine finds the pen a little chunky, (it's only 14mm in diameter at it's widest point near the nib and which tapers to less than 1 mm at the nib point. From the widest diameter to the nib end is only 21mm and from the widest point to the battery end which is 158mm its only 11mm wide). All that said I reckon there is little room for reduction due to the battery compartment (which takes a single AAA battery) and the electronics inside the pen. There are eight useful and customizable function keys such placed on the left hand side of the tablet. It comes already configured with functions such as zoom.
Unfortunately for me, the placement of the function keys was the only negative to the whole package as I'm left handed. This resulted in me frequently catching the lowest function keys while working, due to my wrist catching the lower bank of 4 function keys. Most of the time it was just a minor distraction, but at times it was frustrating especially when I was working at single pixel ranges and needed to be focused. It really is only a minor niggle. If you are right handed there's absolutely no issues at all. Both my teenage children find it brilliant to use, especially my daughter who is very artistic and uses it in conjunction with some of the drawing and painting applications we have (see below for some of the applications I've used this product with). I've mentioned this left handed issue to the developers of this tablet. They mistakenly thought that you could just turn the tablet upside down so that the function keys were on the right, but they didn't realize that all pen actions are reversed (i.e. when you want to move up you move down and trying to move left results in you moving right). They have since accepted this and intend changing their description of the product. I do hope they can integrate some code into the drivers for this tablet so that one of the function keys could be coded for reversing the pen actions. This would then solve the problem.
The developers have kindly offered me a decent discount on a second tablet, that's if I was to purchase another one. A fact I'm seriouly considering because there are three of us in my family that regularily use the tablet; an extra one would be welcome.
I used to use a Wacom tablet, that would no longer function once I upgraded from Win XP to later operating systems (all three i.e. Vista, Win 7 and Win 8/8.1). I can say with experience of using both Wacom and Ugee products that I much prefer the Ugee product and will no doubt be following their range of tablets into the future because of their quality and competitive pricing.
I've tested the M708 using several graphics programs such a Substance Painter, Aartform Curvy 3D, ArtRage 4, Articy Draft SE, Bitmap 2 Material 3, Black Ink, Mind Tex, Ray Supreme 3D and Silo 2. I've still to test it on several other programs such as Photoshop, but haven't got around to that yet.
Oh yeah, it also works in conjunction with my childrens tutorial sessions, which uses an online whiteboard (via MyTutorWeb).
The Ugee M708 is great product at a competitive price. :)
There seems to have been a lot of thought put to the kit of parts and the way they came packed in the box. Along with the actual tablet comes the pen and a stand for it in 2 parts. One part hold 8 spare pen points and an extracted tool for use when changing the point. When the two parts are put together the resulting pen stand is used by placing the pen across the top and NOT faced down in the centre.
An AAA battery is required (not supplied) for the pen. Care must be taken in putting this the right way up in the pen when installing.
I have tried using the pen and found it to excellent in my limited way which makes me think that it will be even better in an experts hands.
This was supplied to me at a reduced price for me to appraise it. I have been open to the fact that even though I consider the Graphic Tablet along with the accessories is an excellent item and very good to use my limitations makes this report limited in its information but I hope it is sufficient in helping you to make a decision.
Takes seconds to set up. It came quickly and the packagin looks great.
The tablet itself is a perfect size and the pen feels natural to draw with. the pressure levels are perfect with it's default settings.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants a graphics tablet, it is better, cheaper and easier to use than anything from wacom.
