Quietly surprised

I deliberately waited a while before writing a review as very low cost items sometimes fail quickly. I'm happy to say I have used this every day for three weeks and it has performed flawlessly. What surprised me more than anything is that it worked out of the box with Ubuntu (14.04.1 LTS) which I didn't expect.
One thing to bear in mind is that you won't get the same speed as you would if you plugged directly into the computer's RJ45 port.
For example the speed through my computer's RJ45 port (when it worked) was 40Mb but it's only 6Mb through the adapter. As it's plugged into a computer mainly used for browsing and catch up TV it's perfectly adequate.

Update: Today I needed to use this on a PC running Windows 7 and I'm glad to say I was able to load the required driver from Windows Update with no problem.

Works perfecly in Linux Mint 14

Plugged this into my desktop with Linux Mint, plugged in lan cable, 10 seconds later I was on-line, no hassle. I`m sure the same would apply for any Linux variant.

I did try under XP (same machine) Windows searched for some time and failed to find a driver (typical) but running the file in the XP directory on the disk installed one fine.

I know some have reported slow speeds with these, but mine connected at full speed (100MB/s duplex) which means it must be USB2 as USB1 would have limited it to 12MB/s, slow connection speeds would most likely be driver or application issues.

Conclusion: Nice cheap ethernet adaptor which may not suite the latest versions of Windows.

NOT FOR NINTENDO Wii

Ok, so I should have read the instructions more carefully. I kind of assumed that Nintendo were pushing their own adapter purely for profit, and that any USB-LAN adapter would work - Ooops, not the case.
I wonder how many people have bought this one, realized their mistake, but were too embarrassed to admit it. Ah well, now you know, pay the extra and go for the official version.
As I haven't been able to test this device, it seems unfair to give it a bad rating, I just wish that its unsuitability for the Wii was pointed out.

I have an Acer S3 ultraslim laptop running on linux (Ubuntu 11.04) without any LAN port. So, it only worked with WIFI. But I always wanted to hook it on to wired network when at home for faster communication. So when I found this product in the amazon site, I was bit hopeful and also bit skeptical - will it work on linux, does it require any drivers, will there be any drivers for linux and so on ....

Then looking at the price, I took a gamble. But after I received the adapter, to my surprise, it worked perfectly in linux and does not need any drivers.

Works but take care

I bought this adaptor after the ethernet socket on my laptop died for some reason. The adaptor was easy to install and works fine ie I can now access the internet again BUT I have learnt to unplug it after use and plug it in only once the laptop is up and running. I left it in overnight and the laptop wouldn't function properly when I started it up the next day. I recommend this product but with precautions (the installation process does warn you that it's not Windows approved and system may not function correctly after installation). (Speedy delivery by the supplier.)

NOT a 10/100 Mbps device, delivery from China takes a very long time

The description on this item has changed since I purchased, it now says USB 1.1 compatible device which would have rung alarm bells if I'd seen it when purchasing I'm sure. This device should not be being sold as a 10 / 100 Mbps device as USB 1.1 has a maximum of 12 Mbps! Unless you have a 4-6 Mbps connection into your house, this will drastically reduce the connection speed to the device, and potentially the connection speed of other devices if used with a USB hub. It will also slow down transfers to any connected device over your local network (e.g. from a PC to another PC in the same house). This slow down will represent maximum transfer speeds of 480 Mbps dropping to 12 Mbps, which is comparatively unusable.

I tested with 30 Mbps connection (through wifi bridge in client mode) from this product:

And confirmed by connection into Macbook Pro. When using this device for my Android TV stick (Justop MK809 II) it received a maximum of 6 Mbps. When replaced with this product:

I received the full 30 Mbps which was available.

This is also being sold by SHENZHEN LERWAY TECHNOLOGY CO.,LTD., not "Lerway Tech" as the seller name is conveniently listed on Amazon. They dispatched my device from China and it took WEEKS. I know it was free postage, but I do not expect the delivery date to be estimated as a month into the future after I've purchased. If Amazon allow their shopfront to be filled with companies selling like this, the trust most customers place in them (myself included) will become misplaced.

I have asked for a refund, and the Amazon assure me they company have 3 working days to replay. I will update when I receive further communication (if I can edit reviews after posting?).

I used the items listed in this review ("TP-Link" and "Pluggable") to connect my MK809 Android TV stick to my wifi network with an ethernet connection. For anyone considering doing this, it works really well when using the proper equipment!

EDIT: The seller was quick to respond and offer me a refund, which I have not received. My previous comments still stand but I am happy with the service I received from them.

Works perfectly with Linux (Ubuntu 9.04) on three architectures. Just plug it in and it works. No faffing around finding drivers, no forced reboots, just works.

No fuss network connection

The USB to LAN adaptor is an easy way to add another network port with minimum fuss and I used this product to allow my xbox 360 to share my PC's internet connection.
Vista did not auto detect the drivers, so the included driver cd is need and on the down side the drivers don't work with windows 7.
