Product Description

Platform:PC  |  Edition:Standard Edition

All it takes is the swipe of a finger. We connect with friends. We buy the latest gadgets and gear. We find out what’s happening in the world. But with that same simple swipe, we cast an increasingly expansive shadow. With each connection, we leave a digital trail that tracks our every move and milestone, our every like and dislike. And it’s not just people. Today, all major cities are networked. Urban infrastructures are monitored and controlled by complex operating systems.

Welcome to Chicago

In Watch_Dogs, this system is called the Central Operating System (CTOS) – and it controls almost every piece of the city’s technology and holds key information on all of the city’s residents.

Aiden Pearce

You play as Aiden Pearce, a brilliant hacker and former thug, whose criminal past led to a violent family tragedy. Now on the hunt for those who hurt your family, you'll be able to monitor and hack all who surround you by manipulating everything connected to the city’s network. Access omnipresent security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control traffic lights and public transportation to stop the enemy… and more.

Hack the city

Watch_Dogs takes place in a fully simulated living city where, using your smartphone, you have real-time control over the city’s infrastructure. Trap your enemy in a 30-car pileup by manipulating the traffic lights. Stop a train, and then board it to evade the authorities. Narrowly escape capture by quickly raising a drawbridge. Anything connected to the city’s CTOS can become your weapon.

Street justice

Living in inner city Chicago where violence is best answered by violence, you have the skills to take the fight to the streets. Take down enemies by delivering devastating blows with your baton, or experience a shoot-out like never before with a physics simulation that rivals anything in the shooter category. Use a combination of shooting and hacking to gain advantage in any given situation. The streets are designed for you to create your own plan of attack.

High octane driving

Ubisoft Montreal has partnered with studios such as Ubisoft Reflections, the acclaimed studio behind the award-winning Driver series to bring you a game bursting with horsepower. Get behind the wheel of more than 65 vehicles, each with state of the art physics and handling, and explore the massive city while completing missions.

Everything is under control

Disrupt, the all-new game engine dedicated to Watch_Dogs, uses advanced processing and graphics to deliver a stunning visual and an incredibly realistic experience. Disrupt gives you the power to affect the story, the city and the life of the population with your choices creating a ripple effect throughout the city.

Seamless multiplayer experience

Discover new levels of interaction, cooperation and confrontation between players thanks to a brand new multiplayer game system that links the single and multiplayer modes into one seamless experience. That means no menus, no loading screens, just instant open world multiplayer action.

Stay connected with a new way to play

Take your experience beyond the console with a groundbreaking, real-time, companion game. This innovative mobile platform allows players to connect and compete with friends, even when away from their home console. The Watch_Dogs companion game delivers revolutionary dual-screen gameplay that enables you to play from anywhere, at any time.

You only have to look at the reviews online to see that Watch Dogs has been pretty poorly received and there are good reasons for this - thankfully this was a free copy wth a video card, otherwise I would have been pretty unhappy that I'd not done more research. As PC games go its poor - mainly because it tries to do way too much and none of it well. Is it a hacking game? A conspiracy game? A stealth game? Worse, a driving game? Who knows - all of them but at a really, really superficial level. None of the mechanics are great and all smack of a focus on easy console controls - so virtually every activity from hacking to shooting is executed by point and click with a single key. So its not really hacking - its point at a clearly highlighted icon, click and...its done. Utterly utterly unchallenging. The driving mechanics are simply awful - I suspect that many of those who buy this game may not be old enough to actually drive, but trust me the mechanics (on the PC at least) are completely unlike driving and manouevring any car that I've come across and the acceleration/deceleration/steering physics are simply terrible - its more like floating a boat through the streets. Which begs the question - if the developers couldn't get it right then why did they make driving such an integral part of the game? Then there is the 'plot' and the voice acting - the plot is hackneyed and dull and the voice acting suggests that those involved also found the whole process tedious.

So, overall, a real dog's dinner of a game - tries to do way to much and does none of it even passably well. Over-emphasis on driving with dreadful driving mechanics and really too easy due to oversimplification for the console market.

I think there was so much expectation around this that I'm actually disappointed with it.

Graphics look great, maxed out on my core i7 with a radeon 290 it runs pretty nice, maybe 30fps average. Dropping down to very high from ultra gives you a better experience.

Compared to something like GTA5, I think it gets boring quickly. The camera hacks are always the same, and they arent exactly difficult either. The main story is dragging a bit, and the side quests are thin on the ground when it comes to variety.

I like the gunplay, enemies look like you have really shot them in a certain place, you can shoot policemen in the leg etc.

Online stuff seems completely pointless unless you like killing each other for no good reason except to unlock all the games bonus features.

Personally I'd wait until you can pick this up for sub 30 quid, and don't even bother unless you have a really high spec machine.

I played sleeping dogs a lot more than this, and I completed GTA5. I can't see me seeing this through to the end though.

A game which was definitely over hyped, and in comparison to E3 the final game is not as dynamic as portrayed (clearly e3 game play was mainly a sequence of scripted events). Game play and story was very mediocre with the novelty wearing off sooner than one would expect, and i feel as though the developers hoped the excessive graphics would cause its players to overlook this fact(particularly with the dynamic lighting). The side missions are just flat boring and repetitive with very little incentive to even play them in the first place.

Overall its an ok game but nothing special, the hacking concept is cool for a very brief moment, not challenging(completed on most difficult setting, and could still Rambo my way through), and does not compete or provide an alternative to GTAV in terms of entertainment, game play and story. Main feature/Plus of this game is the active online-multiplayer environment(i.e. being randomly invaded, or watching a very conspicous online player, who somehow thinks they've invaded unnoticed.), and the multiplayer (which can be very fun at times).

My first game review hope it helps, and i would of definetly appreciated reading a review from the community rather than relying on mainstream media.

Waste of money as the game is poorly optimised and often laggs out graphics look nothing like the trailers and the story is pointless as it just flings you round the map every 2 minutes also dont get it if you are prone to raging as you will rip your screen apart

I ordered this almost exactly a year ago, and enjoyed the first part of the game and early missions.
In particular the gang missions, the hacking and puzzle type missions.
What spoils it for me is the driving missions which I find stupidly difficult. I play on a PC, so the controls I guess are not as good as on a console, and I don't really enjoy driving games like GTA or the circuit type driving ones, but I don't think they should be a pre-requisite for enjoyment.

Other games, such as Assassins Creed which I love have a much more open route through the missions, with several different routes / style of play. Watch Dogs is much too prescriptive, and forces you down a particular route too narrowly for my taste.

If you like city driving games and are happy to repeat missions over and over till you get it perfect, this is for you. If you like open style of play and don't want to be forced down a set route, you will get annoyed soon enough.

On the good side, I love the hacking style which works well, hopping for camera to camera to home in on the target.
