- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 July 2017Just received my item this afternoon which was purchased to set up, communicate with some Arduino Pro Minis that I have.
For me at least it was plug and play with Windows 7 so unless I already have the driver installed for another device or module which could well be the case or it just works as it should but either way... bang straight away working. Connected it up to the first Arduino Pro Mini and assigned a COM Port in less than a second and away I went using the Arduino IDE could not have been have more simple.
The Arduino Pro Mini I am using is 5v @ 16mhz and I did notice some people say they had trouble with 5v devices but it worked perfectly for me so unless they were referring to something else they must have been unlucky because mine is working like a charm.
Was a bit pricey for what is is but given how smoothly it works I am not too sore about the cost.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 October 2013I bought one of these so that I could connect to an Arduino 'Pro Mini' micro-controller also bought from Amazon. Click on this link to see it:- Pro Mini 5V for Arduino.
This item came with 5 female to female leads but no instructions.
Works well and cheaper than many other USB to serial adaptors, supplied by Amazon so delivered in a few days (some of these inexpensive devices on Amazon come from the far-east and can take a couple of weeks to turn up). Please note that I think that some other versions of the Pro Mini have different pin-outs from the unit above and may require some online research to get working.
5 stars because it works well and does all required of it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 February 2023Simple and easy to use, largely no issue though not plug and play - had to get drivers for it (Win 10) but that wasn't difficult. Wish the cable had male pins on one end as quite a lot of UART is just holes on a board but maybe that's the stuff I'm dealing with.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 April 2018Brilliant little piece of kit. Windows 10 installed driver without any problems. I used it to flash tasmota to a sonoff basic switch. It worked flawlessly.
I had a similar FTDI which needed a separate usb cable. Found on a German geek forum that some chips and cables can reduce the required juice to flash successfully.
Also wanted to add this it only got a 5v pin. In case you need the 3.3v, like for flashing sonoffs you need to solder a pin header into the right connector. Pretty easy with the right tools.
This one however worked perfectly. Now what else can I flash with it?
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 December 2019I'm using an ATmega1284 for a project, in both the DIP40 (breadboard) and TQFP44 (Surface mount PCB) formats.
Having uploaded a bootloader with an Arduino Uno, I can now upload sketches from the Arduino IDE using this Serial Converter just as if my custom PCM was a normal Arduino.
Works perfectly with Atmega328p too (Same chip used on the Nano and Uno).
It would have been more useful with a USB cable I think, but I cut up an old cable and soldered it to the board.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 December 2013This is a fairly standard USB to TTL converter. I purchased it with the hope of un-bricking my Seagate HDD. Its one of the cheaper ones on Amazon, and also from a UK seller which is nice as it didnt take weeks to arrive.
A couple of points to note:
The TX line on this must connect to the RX line on whatever your connecting it to, or else it wont work.
You must supply external power to the converter, either 3.3V or 5V depending on the signal you wish to transmit. This can be done using either the orange wire from a SATA power connector (for 3.3V) or red (for 5V).
You will also need a USB extension cable and/or longer leads (or make your own) as the ones supplied are only about 20cm long and completely useless unless you want the convertor resting on whatever your trying to connect it to.
All in all it was a lot better than i was expecting it to be, arrived quickly and still hasnt broke, so 5 stars.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 January 2024It is a nightmare to find drivers for this, and when I finally found a download and ran the .exe file I got the message in the image above . Not saying its impossible to get this to work but I have spent enough time on this now.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 July 2017Works fine but was described as 5v and 3.3v but had to solder on a header pin to get 3.3v. Not a massive pain as I had some header pins but had I not, this would have been useless.

Joakim OlssonReviewed in Sweden on 11 April 20212.0 out of 5 stars Requires soldering to work with 3.3v
The fact that the device isn't readily switched between 3.3v and 5v through a jumper or switch makes it basically worthless to me. This little detail is not clearly communicated in the product description on Amazon.
3/10, would return if it wasn't such a hassle for a cheap product. Now I'm probably going to recycle it instead.

BRACO FREDERICReviewed in France on 14 January 20175.0 out of 5 stars Fait comme il faut le job.

Martin MajewskiReviewed in Germany on 13 August 20165.0 out of 5 stars Endlich mal ein funktionierender Adapter
Meine Kaufempfehlung.

Isidoro G.V.Reviewed in Spain on 30 December 20155.0 out of 5 stars Compatible 100% con Gnu/Linux
