I have to admit that I haven't read every written word in this lovely book, but I have been through it fairly comprehensively looking for information on my grandad, who joined the Tyneside Scottish Northumberland Fusiliers in 1916 having previously been a miner (coal hewer ). Unfortunately I was unable to find any reference to him at all. I will have to keep trying.

Nevertheless, I really enjoyed reading about the regiment and found the photographs very interesting.

My great-uncle signed up for this regiment even though he was Welsh (recruited in Newport) so I was interested to learn more about it. I haven't read it all yet but it is a fascinating record of the Regiment.

A very specialist book but excellent for anyone with a particular interest in these Battalions and their WW1 history. I had discovered a great uncle who served in the 23rd Battalion and was killed, along with hundreds of his colleagues, on the First Day of the Battle of the Somme. The book filled in useful background and lists the names of all who served. My only disappointment was the quality of the Maps.

I have yet to be disappointed by a book in this series. This is as detailled and packed with photographs as all of the others.
If you have any interest at all in the Great War then this is a must. If you have an interest in the Tyneside Scottish then all you need is here!! There is a very detailled appendix covering gallantry awards, casualties and nominal roles of all 4 battalions.
A great read and an excellent reference.

Excellent book. Factual accounts and details of battalion movements etc during World War 1. My Grandfather E.V Dunn is listed in the book so of particular interest to my family.

This book is incredible - I found two entries about my grand-father who served with the 20 Battalion and was awarded the Military Medal for bravery as a Lance Corporal.
Cheers........D J Graham
