If you want an introduction to the game this is the guide for you. If you want help with the game try you tube and save yourself some cash.
Now let's move on to the guide. It's good as far it goes, but it doesn't really go far enough and the lack of an index (other than a quest index) doesn't do the guide any favours.
For example, whilst there's a section on weapons and a very brief section on crafting, there's no mention of useful to know things like the limits on crystal slots for particular weapons such as daggers. Similarly there's no section on armour/clothing and the limits on augmenting armour/clothing are not mentioned in the crafting section. One of the early side quests involves scuttling around a number of underground mazes with nothing but a torch: no maps in-game and no maps in the guide either.
I've bought the game and I like it - it's a keeper. I've bought the guide and it's a disappointment, so I can only give it a decidedly lukewarm rating. It could and should have been a whole lot better.
It's almost a five star rating, except for a few problems with the text. I found several instances of non-translation from the original German. This is not too serious; either quest and questgiver details are not translated or the reward details are still in German. One side quest "Expanding Factory" (page 111) has not had the description translated, although the quest details and reward info has been. There are also instances of a paragraph in English followed by the same paragraph in German or vice versa. But it's clear the guide hasn't been proofread properly and gives the impression it has been rushed out. This is an in-house product from TopWare Interactive so I don't know if Brady's guide has the same faults as I haven't seen it, but I would hope they checked their text before printing.
If you want the guide, don't let these small problems put you off. It's still a great guide. Just make sure you have a German-English dictionary to hand.
However, I doubt I would have enjoyed this game so much if it had not been for the Strategy guide. This is completely comprehensive, beautifully illustrated, is very well written, quite amusing too, and answers any question the player might have. There is so much one can miss when playing without it and I would recommend it without hesitation, It will enhance even the most experienced players enjoyment, and is a must for the novice player.
