Review

A highly amusing and very original picture book ... a fabulous story with a lovely message (School Librarian)

On Good Knight, Sleep Tight: 'A warming bedtime tale about coping with a new baby in the family... Perfect for Key stage 1 & 2 English classes. (PN)

You can always rely on David Melling for an exciting story and some wonderful illustrations -- this book is no exception (The Bookbag)

On The Kiss That Missed:
1'It's funny and original and an absolute delight to read aloud - a perfect bedtime read.' - THE PARENT'S GUIDE
2.An ideal bedtime book ... This delightful tale is a true charmer ... Melling's witty illustrations are packed with imaginative detail, including the masterly touch of a delicate golden line tracing the swirling path of the kiss. - The Scotsman

On The Tale of Jack Frost:
'one of the best picture books of the year...' The Sunday Express
'a humorous story which is pared down to perfection.' Carousel
'Exquisitely illustrated and beautifully told... set to become a winter classic.' Primary Times
'Well-suited to read aloud.' Publishers Weekly

A wonderful story infused with love and humour (The Guardian)

It screams 'modern day classic' at you...perfect pace and humour (and) it is the illustrations which set it apart. Melling, author and illustrator, deserves even more awards to be heaped on him for his latest offering. (www.adoption-net.co.uk)

With playful text and a catchy refrain, Little Bat Jack proves that all the best things come in small packages. (Junior)

Format: Paperback
Since joining the local library David Melling has become a favourite author of my two boys (3 and 4). Two By Two And A Half was the first book of his we borrowed...and the second! It was such a popular book that my 3 year old requested it as his potty training reward so that we can read it whenever he wants.

The book itself is quite a nice, simple story, with plenty of opportunities for fun voices and discussion. The illustrations are wonderful, offering surprises when you turn the page to see what Miss MooHoo imagines could be hiding. Add to that the emotional rollercoaster (?) of sympathy for Little Bat Jack, fear from the 'rampaging ragamuffins' and joy for the end. I haven't tired with reading it yet and would most definitely recommend it to all children who enjoy a story that has a certain level of predictability but not too much :).

my daughter love this book. All about a class on a day out with their teacher and the creatures they think they see. The small, quiet member of the class who is always ignored saves the day!

Bought this book after receiving Hugless Douglas as a present. It is as fantastically illustrated, but incredibly short - too short to build up the reader's curiosity before the mystery is unveiled. Would suggest you choose Hugless Douglas instead of this.
