And, if anything, I like it slightly more. Jerry Merrill, on keyboards, is still largely in charge of things, having engineered, mixed and mastered at various studios in Southern California, with brother Ray on drums, percussion & trumpet, James Zeigler on guitars and new boy Chris Galli on bass. Production was undertaken by the band and Jerry Merrill.

Like its predecessor, Twisted Pea Soup is another crisp and lively all instrumental set, an innovative mix of jazz and rock, but not jazz/rock per se and definitely not smooth jazz. When you're in the mood for something lively and a bit off the beaten track, this is an album to blow away a few cobwebs even though, like it's predecessor, it's a bit on the bright side of neutral, possibly because Jerry Merrill's favoured choice of electronics (so he told me by e-mail) is valves/tubes.

I'm pleased to see this album at least listed on amazon (the band's own site may be the only source of a copy these days) and I hope a few people will take the time to sample what Faldo's Toy has to offer, because it's nicely different from a lot of the smooth mush which seems to have dominated the jazz airwaves since the year 2000, being both inventive and original. The artwork's great too. Well worth checking out.
