I tried to like this book. I really did. I wanted to love it. The author kindly sent me the revised version. And I tried again. But to no avail. For me, the story got lost among the sheer number of words being used to tell the tale. That left the narrative without direction, meandering aimlessly and slowly through the plot, and with no real spark to grab my attention.

Ultimately, I simply couldn't finish this book - either in its original or revised format. I really just couldn't muster up any enthusiasm for the characters or their relationships.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Such a unique and exciting take on both a fairytale and fantasy. The two were combined brilliantly, and the fairytale aspect was completely different from any I have read before. This is definitely a story I want to continue and an author I will follow.

I like that the calligraphy and book brought in the whole realization of a fairytale. It was interesting to think they had been forced to search for each other for centuries, just to finish writing their love story. I loved that this time our charming one must save our leading lady from a lifer that could never be complete, as she is without true love, rather than a monster. This story definitely made you feel just how hard being without love, for centuries, could be and brings in the feeling that it is much worse than being held by a dragon.

The characters were fantastic. I loved that the lead lady didn't have a clue as to why things were falling apart and she was unhappy. It was very real, raw and hard to imagine the pain, as she cut herself to,deal with what she felt, or didn't feel. Then, as we got to know her, just how much she wanted to love and how strong she really was, she was thrown into a completely different culture, in a wee village. I loved that she blossomed there. It was unexpected and felt so free and happy.

The pace was good, as it stayed mostly as a medium pace, to give us time to feel and see what was happening, but it had some moments of faster pace, to try and battle an evil that wanted to ruin the two main characters' chances at finishing their story.

Overall, really good read. It is fun, different and really easy to get into.

**I received this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Twice upon a Time is the first book in ( The Black Angel Book Series) by Hope Irving ,and I must say that I thoroughly this great story. Hope Irving has given us a story that will make you hang off each and every word in every chapter. The author has a cast of characters that I must is more like the people of today that we meet with their different problems and even their family dysfunctional is hilarious .The story is a blend of past and present that is mixed together ,but also gives us something extra as readers to enjoyed. I found that this story is quite easy to transition from one to the other without getting confused ,as to what is going happening. The twists in this story is something I don't expect ,and I couldn't totally put this story down once I start it. The romance between these two characters was quite intriguing their were so overwhelmed with each other that they couldn't express themselves . Their innermost thoughts was described by the author was written so well. Centuries ago a monk by the name of Morgann and a witch named Deidre crafted the Black Angel Book -the most powerful book ,that others would kill for it. But before they died Deidre casted a spell a upon the book to ensure ,that they would find each other again in another time. Their souls are in bodies of Virgil ,who's a calligrapher ,and Rose who happens to a on holidays and decides to take his calligraphy class. Poor Rose is depressed because of a break up is really for a summer fling. Virgil knows who he is and truly believes that Rose is his lovely Deidre .Can these two finally get together? I could tell you more about this story but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this great story ,you won'tbe disappointed.

I would like to thank the author and Kiss Off Blog Tours for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This story took me awhile to get into as Hope told the back story to Deirdre and Morgann. Then the story jumped forward to Rose and her spending time with her family in Provincetown. It was actually a while before Rose (Deirdre) and Virgil (Morgann) actually meet and this began to get in my nerves. I wanted to know more way before the author actually gets to the nitty gritty.

The story really is a roller coaster ride sometimes I was captivated and kept turning the pages and others I was frustrated at a few parts in the story. It is a unique telling of a story and a great debut from the author.

What I will say is I would have preferred more showing ie when we are told about Morgann and Deidre I would liked to have read the scenes between them, especially where she cast the spell to save their souls.

I love a fantasy/paranormal romance and this is a great story and very captivating. I loved all the 80's movie star names and the references to The Breakfast Club and other brat pack films.

The only thing I was sure of was the hero's name of Virgil, sorry it just didn't work for me. When I read a story I want to fall in love with the main character but the name for me just didn't work.
