Many years ago i bought an album by an artist called Vast (Jon Crosby), Visual Audio Sensory Theatre. The album was way above my expectations, and so i slowly became a big Vast fan.

Now we come to Vast's fourth retail release the double album Turquoise & Crimson which was originally released as a download only album. But after a long wait the albums have finaly been given a proper retail release, and i have to say that the product in question is amazing.

The first disk 'Turquoise' starts the album off with alot of fimiliar songs, the majority of which were released on the album 'Nude'. But, the songs from Nude are not exactly the same, they have been given a new coat of paint, and most of them are better than before.

Another thing i noticed about Turquoise is that it appears to be the heavier side to the double album, with some great rock out tracks such as 'Thrown Away' & 'I woke up L.A' it really does start the album wiv alot of energy.

Turquoise then ends with another song which has been redone from the Nude album, 'Desert Garden'. Personally i think this song is one of Vast's best, it is a beautiful song which calms you down after the energy rush of the first part of the album.

The second disk 'Crimson' is the more chilled out half of the album, apart from the song 'Thats my Boy' which is considerably more rocky than the rest. This half of the album is mostly a lot more slow paced, which is great because it gives you a chance to relax and think about the beautiful music.

Overall i think this is an oustanding effort by Vast, and an album that everyone who has an interest in music should check out.

5/5.

I bought this album after only after hearing a couple of their previous songs. To say that this was a monumental moment in my life (in terms of my music listening of course!) is an understatement! I probably can't even express in words how good this album and this band is.

Quiet simply, this is a soundtrack to express pure emotion. Heart felt lyrics and breath-taking music...

I don't need to say anymore. Buy it.

There are some artists, some albums that as a listener you just connect with inexplicably and this is one of those albums for me. I've only just begun to scratch the surface of this double-dose of intoxicating sound that is `Turquoise/Crimson', but already I'm hooked. Having only previously sampled the sound of VAST with the single `Touched', I had high hopes and yet wasn't quite sure what to expect- more of the same from the same band, or a totally new sound after years in the ether between this and their last studio release...

While there may not be tracks that define a moment in popular music like `Touched', there's a plethora of standout tracks on both these CD's. The high production values, experimentation in sound, memorable lyrics and the lead singer's enigmatic vocals combine in a way similar to what that song achieved. I'll take the word of another reviewer who has noted that the first album `Turquoise' borrows/reinvents track releases from previous albums and maybe that's why it's more reminiscent of `Touched' for me than `Crimson'. The title track (8/10), `Be With Me' (8/10), `Don't Take Your Love Away' (10/10) and `Candle' (9/10) are all in a similar vein to that earlier tune and are often as breath-taking in their intensity. `Crimson' is comparatively more down-beat/contemplative and only marginally less effective with just one or two less powerful tracks- `Dead Angel' (9/10), `Beautiful' (10/10) and `Goodbye' (8/10).

In my music library this album is defined as `alterative' and while that's inarguably a pretty broad category, it probably comes closest to the truth at the heart of this record, because while it draws upon elements of rock and pop, even metal and grunge, it's an animal of completely its own unique making.
